Ethiopia’s provision of severance pay for employees with five or more years of service is a cornerstone of equitable labor practice. However, its uniform application inadvertently creates a severe dissonance within private education, a field governed not by the fiscal year alone, but by the immutable rhythm of the academic calendar. It is best if a targeted, common-sense refinement to the severance pay provision for private school teachers is introduced. Ethiopia’s severance pay law is just. A teacher’s rightful reward for years of service should never come at the cost of their students’ current academic year.

Addis Ababa, December 26, 2025 (FMC) — The successful completion of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) has widened Ethiopia’s development horizon and created the confidence to dream of even bigger national projects, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s Advisor on East African Affairs, Getachew Reda, told a high‑level forum at the dam site in Guba. GERD now underpins a stronger national grid and forms a foundation for sustained economic expansion. GERD alone accounts for 51 percent of the country’s total power exports. Fiseha Yitagesu, CEO of Industrial Parks Development Corporation (IPGC), highlighted the economic impact of GERD on Ethiopia’s industrial sector. Industrial parks alone will require approximately 2,500 megawatts over the next five years — a demand GERD is critical to meet.

Excerpts;Question: Toffic, you’ve transitioned from a 15-year career in filmmaking to leading a digital education company. The government has a clear policy to promote digital technology, but the ecosystem of localized, high-quality digital content was nascent. If we are serious about helping students across Ethiopia, from Oromia to Somali region, be active in digital technology, we must meet them where they are, in the language they think and dream in. We don’t just want students to use digital tools; we want them to understand and create with them. We want GOBEZ to have helped plant that seed of digital confidence and creativity in every student we reach.

Gap Between Official and Parallel Dollar Exchange Rates Narrows, Says Ethiopian Economics AssociationThe gap between Ethiopia’s official and parallel (black market) foreign exchange rates has narrowed by 4.7 percentage points, according to a new study released by the Ethiopian Economics Association (EEA). “The data show a relative narrowing of the gap between the official and parallel market exchange rates compared to the previous quarter,” Nasser explained. Nasser noted that both the dollar exchange rate and the price of birr continue to show volatility, indicating broader market uncertainty. “Because Ethiopia imports a wide range of essential goods, exchange rate instability directly affects price levels,” he said. The Ethiopian Economics Association concluded that while the narrowing exchange rate gap is a positive development, sustained policy efforts are needed to ensure long-term stability in the foreign exchange market and the broader economy.

SM/FileYonas Biru, PhDAbstractThe dilemma Islamic politicians face epitomizes the inherent crisis in Ethiopian political life that the TPLF experienced with devastating consequences. Today, a new civilizational project is unfolding under the banner of Oromummaa (Oromo ethno-nationalism). Oromummaa’s effort to center Gadaa (Oromo socio-political system) and Waaqeffanna (Oromo religion) as the foundations of authentic Oromo identity mirrors the Solomonic imperial hegemony it historically revolted against. Oromo Gadaa CivilizationThe Gadaa system represents an indigenous, age-grade–based political order characterized by rotational leadership, consensus governance, and collective accountability. Synthesis of Oromummaa’s Three-Pronged StrategyThe three strategies interlock seamlessly to advance Oromo civilizational and political primacy while containing potential rivals and transforming them into instrumentalized victims.

Her conversational writing style is easy to read and prepares the reader to enter into their own conversations about the person of Jesus Christ. “Eyes Fixed on Jesus” is a series of three volumes walking the reader through the Gospels, interweaving the narratives of all four evangelists. The author’s background includes an advanced degree in theology, but she is not primarily a Scripture scholar. In the margins throughout the book, Scripture citations are abundantly present, pointing both to direct quotations from Scripture as well as to individual passages that are merely referenced in passing. Hunter-Kilmer invites readers to slow down, to consume and savor the Word of God, keeping their eyes fixed on Jesus.
