The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has revealed that over 270 Nigerian inmates are serving various prison terms in Ethiopia, adding most were imprisoned for drug-related offences. The ministry said this in reaction to a viral video by one Dr Paul Ezike, making the rounds on social media on the alleged plight of Nigerian inmates in the Kaliti Prison in Ethiopia. She added, “Over 270 Nigerian nationals are serving various prison terms in Ethiopia. “The Ethiopian authorities, on the other hand, have always maintained that Nigerian inmates are not treated differently from other inmates, Ethiopian inmates inclusive. When finalised, this will enable Nigerian inmates to complete their jail terms in Nigeria, where their family members could complement the government’s efforts towards their maintenance in prison.

The EU aid package was initially worth 1 billion euros ($1.04 billion) and was due to be given to Ethiopia from 2021 to 2027, but it was suspended in late 2020 after fighting broke out in the northern Tigray region. The Tigray war killed unknown thousands and was characterized by massacres, mass rape and allegations of enforced starvation. Ethiopia has tried to block a U.N. probe from investigating the atrocities and has launched its own transitional justice process, which human rights experts say is flawed. The EU’s aid pledge to Ethiopia came a day before the deadline for renewing the mandate for the investigation at the U.N. Human Rights Council in Geneva. Last week Human Rights Watch said the EU should submit a resolution at the U.N. Human Rights Council calling for continued investigations into atrocities.

Partial view of Berbera Port. To fully capitalize on the prospects afforded by Berbera Port, Ethiopia and Somaliland need to work closely together, strengthen their bilateral relations, and participate in productive public-private partnerships. As part of the continuous development of the Berbera Corridor, roads are being expanded from Berbera Port to the Ethiopian border, expanding trade opportunities. On the other hand, Berbera Port provides Ethiopian exporters with an alternative route to diversify their export destinations as well. This has the potential to have a favorable influence on socioeconomic conditions, notably in Somaliland, Ethiopia, and East Africa.

ACTION BRONSON X NEW BALANCE 990V6 “BAKLAVA”Image Credit: Courtesy of New BalanceAction Bronson may have named his New Balance sneaker after the Ottoman dessert, but his explanation for its makeup sounds like he consumed a more potent baked good. The idea was to “capture everything that makes us up as beings,” according to Bronsolino himself. Water, earth, electricity — actually two different conceptions of electricity — the moon. They all get their own corresponding color. Then there’s some stuff about pistachios and vehicles if you let him break down his 990v6 further, but you don’t need to dive into his head to be taken in immediately by the shoe’s appearance.

And that Ethiopia, its farmers and the community are not benefiting at all from teff is something we should not accept. Yonas Alemu is an Ethiopian entrepreneur with a commitment: helping Ethiopian farmers benefit from the commercialisation of teff, the world’s smallest grain, native to the Horn of Africa. “We grow up knowing about kachi kachi, which is the stone we feel when we eat our injera (flatbread made from teff)”, Alemu explains. This hampers Ethiopian farmers’ ability to sell their products on the market, which is where Lovegrass comes in. Last year, Lovegrass’ farmers harvested 2 tonnes of teff and this year Alemu expects an even better result.

The decision to move was taken on Sunday evening at a meeting of national security chiefs, the officials said. The north of Mali has seen a resurgence of hostilities by predominantly Tuareg rebels against the Malian army since the end of August. The deal came under strain, however, in 2020, following a coup which toppled the civilian government.

— update by sautéing kale by the handful with caramelized onions to make the bulk of the filling for the sandwich. To add a salty-smoky note, tuck crisp bacon slices inside the sandwiches before cooking them, though it’s still delicious without it. Just be sure to use a hearty sandwich bread that’s sturdy enough to contain all the fillings so the sandwich doesn’t fall apart when you pull it out of the pan. Top each of 4 bread slices with 1 slice of cheese, a quarter of the kale mixture and 1 slice of bacon (if using), torn to fit. Top each with a slice of the remaining cheese, then with another slice of bread, buttered side up.
