The federal government has tried to centralize security powers after the end of a devastating two-year conflict in the country’s Tigray region, where Amhara regional forces and militia were key allies of the federal military. Residents said the informal Amhara militia known as Fano now controls Gondar and Lalibela, which are main tourist towns. “You can hear the sound of heavy shooting.”State-run Ethiopian Airlines suspended flights to Lalibela, Gondar and Dessie. Cuttack, Aug 7: Popular playback singer Sourin Bhatt has been asked to depose before Mahila Police on August 14 for questioning in the alleged sexual harassment case. In his pleadings for bail, Bhatt had alleged that the allegations levelled against him were totally baseless and were filed with ulterior motifs. In the FIR, the victim had also stated that she and Bhatt were in a relationship for years. So I don't think we're at a point where commodity prices and year on year performance are a threat to central bank inflation trajectories. Oh, that's that's basically what's left. There's a there's something big that's going to be decided in the next couple of months. I think there's a way of reaching an equitable compromise, which is what I'm trying to do now. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a fake couple, Mr. Ilonzeh Kingsley Onyebuchi and Mrs. Ilonzeh Roseline Nonyelum purportedly going for medical treatment in India for ingesting 184 wraps of cocaine weighing 3.322 kilograms with 100grams of the drug also concealed in the woman’s private part. During her interview, she confessed that she was recruited in her church in Aba, Abia state where she lives. A further search of the Agency’s crime data base revealed that Kingsley also obtained his travel documents with fake identity for the trip. His travel documents then contained his real name: Uwaezuoke Ikenna Christian. He is still on the court bail when he was arrested at the Lagos airport for a similar offence on 1st August.

Phulbani, Aug 6: The Inspector-In-Charge (IIC) of Phiringia police station Tapan Kumar Nahak has been transferred to the headquarters. The action followed after a mob on Saturday set the Phiringia police station on fire alleging its IIC and two home guards’ involvement in ganja smuggling. The protestors have blazed furniture, vehicles, and important records of police barging into the police station, aggrieved over the inaction of authorities against the alleged cops. Police have also arrested at least 15 persons in connection with the triggering violence inside the police station. Further investigation led by Bhoi is underway to probe the reason behind the violence and the alleged involvement of cops in cannabis smuggling.

The Crime Branch informed that the citizens who are cheated by cyber fraudsters should immediately dial 1930 without any delay. Police DG Sunil Kumar Bansal had earlierheld a review of the functioning of the Cyber Crime Unit of Crime Branch including 1930 helpline. It may be noted herein that in 2021, National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal was launched and dial 1930 facility was established in Odisha for reporting of financial cyber crimes through voice call. The Crime Branch is also planning to add more phone lines and enhance the number caller agents.

Bhubaneswar, Aug 6: Odisha vigilance on Sunday arrested Prasant Kumar Mohanty, S.I of Police of Ambaguda Outpost under Jeypore Sadar police station in Koraput district while demanding and receiving bribe from a complainant. Acting on a tip-off, vigilance conducted a raid and caught Mohanty red handed while accepting bribe of Rs 5,000 from a complainant to help him in a case registered earlier in which Mohanty, was the investigating officer. The entire bribe money has been recovered from accused Mohanty and seized. A case in this connection has been registered with the Koraput vigilance. Investigation is in progress against accused cop.
