GERD is Good for Nile Neighbours, No Harm Intended to Egypt: Ethiopian PM Abiy AhmedEthiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed assured Egypt and neighbouring Nile nations that the country’s Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) will bring benefits rather than harm – stressing that Ethiopia does not intend to jeopardize the water security of downstream countries. “Our development needs in both the upstream and downstream countries are increasing due to population growth,” declared Ahmed in the statement. Al-Sisi’s diplomatic efforts were made clear through Ahmed’s invitation to Cairo last week – Ahmed’s first visit to Cairo since June 2018. The controversial dam, which has been subject to contentious debates and diplomatic discord over its impact on downstream countries, rescheduled GERD’s fourth phase of filling to early September. The decision to delay, announced by Ahmed to the Ethiopian Parliament on 6 July, was to ensure no harm was caused to downstream neighbours.

Authorities reportedly dropped the case after discovering that Adebabayi had answered incoming phone calls from Israeli numbers.

This is not a political issue, it is not a party program, and it is not an issue of government either. Ethiopians planted record 350 million trees in a single day and this year’s seedlings planting intends to surpass the previous record by 150 million.

African leaders kicked off the mid-year coordination summit of the African Union here on Sunday, with participants discussing the economic integration and calling for reforms of the international financial system. While the world continues to face unprecedented crises from the social and economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, the African continent has suffered most, said Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations Amina Mohamed. “Unmet commitments by the international community to financing climate action and inadequate humanitarian responses have further aggravated the obstacles to the efforts made by Africa and its leaders to implement Agenda 2063,” she said. According to Mohamed, the UN joined the call by African leaders for the allocation of additional resources to their economies through the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which has been at the center of criticism by several African leaders. We must have equality in the international system,” Ruto said.

I know the Gold Cup final is later Sunday night, but the tournament has already been won by Mexico after members of the national team met the child who wanted to be Mexican — so he could spend his days eating quesadillas — and presented him with that delicacy and an El Tri jersey. Here's a video of the heartwarming encounter.
