General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party, NPP, John Boadu has revealed that President Akufo-Addo is bent on handing over power to a Presidential candidate of the NPP in 2025. John Boadu, whiles speaking at a news conference in Kumasi earlier this week (April 13) quoted the President as saying he (Akufo-Addo) believed handing over to an NPP candidate was not far fetched but that it will require unity of purpose. According to a Daily Guide newspaper report, Boadu told the conference that Akufo-Addo had disclosed his 'dream' at a National Executive Committee meeting on April 12. “The NPP members should remain steadfast and united around the sterling leadership of the government which is steering the country through these difficult times,” he added. The embattled member of Parliament for Dome Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has hinted at a return to Parliament to discharge her duties. In a post on social media, Adwoa Safo intimated that she has a ‘social contract’ with her constituents and will come to Ghana at the right time to advance their interest in Parliament. Adwoa Safo said she is not unaware of the promises she made to her constituents and the country will always fight for their interest. This follows the death of Hajia Ramatu Mahama, former Second Lady and wife of late former Vice President of Ghana (2001-2009) Alhaji Aliu Mahama with whom the renowned Nigerian businessman had a long-standing friendship. Justices who sat on Assin North MP's Supreme Court case:The judgement was done by a seven-member panel at the Supreme Court chaired by Justices Jones Dotse. Out of these Supreme Court justices, 5 decided against 2 other justices who opposed the ruling. 9 years down the line, the legal practitioner has joined the panel of Justices to rule on the case of the Assin North MP. The MP has since the Supreme Court ruling been barred from carrying out any parliamentary duties. There is however case involving criminal charges against the Assin North MP currently before the Supreme Court.

Speaking on Joy News programme, PM Express, he was of the view that the Supreme Court should not have enforced the Cape Coast High Court decision in injuncting the MP from performing his parliamentary duties. George Akuffo Dampare, the Inspector General of Police contacted the victim of a death threat at the hands of a Lebanese national whose sword-wielding threats went viral on social media on Tuesday. The Police statement disclosed that the IGP had first contacted the victim via telephone before following up with a personal visit to the unnamed victim. “As a result upon [sic] the IGP's instruction, the victim has been given psychological support by a clinical psychologist from the Police Hospital. Multiple reports, initially stated that the Lebanese and a Ghanaian had an argument over where the Lebanese parked his vehicle. “According to reports, this Lebanese man parked his car in front of the shop of a man at Osu for almost an hour.

He said, the Cape Coast High Court had no basis for granting the earlier injunction which has been enforced by the Supreme Court. “There is this injunction because the Plaintiff has issued a writ at the Supreme Court asking for the interpretation of Article 94(2)(a). The Plaintiff is saying he doesn’t understand Article 94(2)(a) and so the Supreme Court should help him understand that. On Wednesday, April 13, the Supreme Court in a 5-2 decision ruled on the issue by barring the Assin North MP from performing any Parliamentary duty. This is until the determination of the substantive case filed against him at the Supreme Court.

“April is a good month for a by-election - Gabby Asare Darko (Prime Minister) and it’s now 5-2. At the heart of the Gyakye Quayson case is a claim that the ousted MP had dual citizenship prior to filing nominations to contest for the Assin North parliamentary seat during the 2020 polls. But James Gyakye Quayson subsequently appealed the judgment, at the Court of Appeal in Cape Coast, but the case was subsequently dismissed. He again sought cover from the Supreme Court. Michael Ankomah-Nimfah also dragged the issue to the Supreme Court in a bid to have Quayson prevented from carrying himself as the MP for Assin North.

A seven-member Supreme Court panel by a majority decision ruled in favour of an application to bar James Gyakye Quayson from holding himself as a legislative representative of Assin North and also from conducting parliamentary business. Michael Nimfah's application added that the embattled MP's continuous stay contravened the 1992 constitution and was not fair to the people of Assin North. BackgroundIn July 2021, Michael-Nimfah obtained a ruling against Gyakye Quayson at the Cape Coast High Court. The court thus annulled his election and ordered for the conduct of fresh elections in Assin North. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court is scheduled to sit at a later date on the substantive case against James Gyakye Quayson’s status as ruled by the Cape Coast High Court.
