President Donald Trump’s tariff policy defeat in the US Supreme Court will not impact the individual trade agreements the administration has negotiated with its trading partners, Bloomberg reported, citing US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer. He tried to distinguish those agreements from the planned 15% global tariff announced by Trump on Saturday. “We want them to understand these deals are going to be good deals,” Greer said. Greer suggested that other US trade tools, including investigations linked to trade practices of other countries, could provide leverage for the US. Uncertainty among trading partners Trump’s approach to trade, largely questioned by the Supreme Court, has raised uncertainty among US trading partners across the globe, including the European Union.

China is making a "full assessment" of the US Supreme Court's tariff ruling and urged Washington to lift "relevant unilateral tariff measures" on its trading partners, the Chinese commerce ministry said in a statement on Monday. ADVERTISEMENTWithin hours of the ruling, Trump said he would impose a new 10% duty on US imports from all countries starting on Tuesday, which he raised to 15% on Saturday. "US unilateral tariffs ... violate international trade rules and U.S. domestic law, and are not in the interests of any party," the Chinese ministry added. The ministry said it noticed the US planned to maintain tariffs on trading partners through alternative means including trade investigations. "China will continue to pay close attention to this and firmly safeguard its interests," the ministry said.

The US Justice Department's investigation of Netflix Inc's proposed $72-billion takeover of Warner Bros Discovery Inc includes scrutiny of the streaming giant’s behaviour and whether it wields anticompetitive leverage over creators in negotiations for acquiring programming, a Bloomberg report said. ADVERTISEMENTThe language in the demand, an administrative subpoena that hasn’t been previously reported, is the clearest sign yet that the Trump administration is going beyond a standard deal review as it investigates the merger, refuting an argument by Netflix in recent weeks that the government is not engaged in anything beyond the typical process, the report said. The broad scope of the review is also a strong indication that it will take many more months before the government decides whether to challenge the Netflix-Warner Bros deal in court. This delay may benefit rival bidder Paramount Skydance Corp.“Netflix operates in an extremely competitive market. Any claim that it is a monopolist, or seeking to monopolise, is unfounded,” Netflix chief legal officer David Hyman said in a statement.
