BENGALURU: US Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade William Kimmitt led a delegation of International Trade Administration (ITA) officials to Bengaluru, the first segment of a visit to India ahead of the Department of Commerce’s participation in the 2026 India AI Impact Summit. While in the city on Tuesday, Kimmitt and the delegation met with several US and Indian tech companies and innovators to learn more about how they are investing in Artificial Intelligence, operationalising AI in their business models and creating US-India tech partnership opportunities. The delegation’s visits included Chevron Engine, Google Deepmind, South Park Commons and Biocon. “It is a privilege to visit the heart of tech innovation in Bengaluru at such a critical juncture for the US-India relationship,” said Kimmitt. The discussion included advancing the objectives of the US-India trade deal, promoting US AI and tech exports and strengthening US industrial capacity to support security.

BENGALURU: A 65-year-old man allegedly hacked his wife to death before attempting suicide in the early hours of Wednesday in Govindarajanagar police limits. The accused, Kumar (65), allegedly killed his wife, Devamma (58), around 12.45 am while she was sleeping at their residence in Sanjeevini Nagar, Moodalapalya. During the trip, Devamma spoke to the driver and that was what triggered the suspicion in Kumar. After the crime, Kumar allegedly called one of his sons and told him about the murder, saying he was planning to end his life as well. Kumar, a construction worker, and Devamma, who worked as housekeeper, had been married for nearly 40 years.

The Bascule bridge, which connects Kidderpore and Garden Reach with the rest of Calcutta, is undergoing a major renovation, Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata (SMPK), the custodian of the 60-year-old structure, said on Wednesday. The ₹117.54 crore project will modernise the 1966-built bridge. Constructed by the Austrian firm, Waagner-Biro Bridge Systems AG, the structure is a double-leaf rolling bridge with its leaves opening to allow cargo ships to pass between Kidderpore Dock I and II. “The bridge is a cornerstone of our port’s logistics network,” said Rathendra Raman, chairperson of Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata. “We are not just preserving a historic landmark but enhancing the safety and speed of port operations.
