It was a chilly start to 2026 for Munster and Clayton McMillan as Ulster stamped their authority all over the New Year URC derby in Belfast. “I don't like to answer those questions, because it's nights like tonight that I think are just as important to us,” McMillan said. “I've seen our ability to get up for big games, but it's the consistency of performance. “I think what we take comfort from is that we've played a lot of the good teams. We've played the Stormers, we've played Leinster twice, we've played Ulster now, we've played Cardiff, who are above us coming into this game.

EU competition chief Teresa Ribera is responsible for enforcing the Digital Markets Act and the Digital Services Act. The Trump administration has demanded changes to the bloc’s tech rules and threatened to impose tariffs in retaliation for EU actions against Silicon Valley groups. Prosecutors have won some landmark rulings that tech companies maintained illegal monopolies. For its part, the EU faces a difficult balancing act, since it wants to enforce its digital rules without triggering a transatlantic trade war or provoking the US president into siding with Russia on Ukraine. A two-way cycle path will be installed on Gardiner Street and the number of its traffic lanes will be halved. Moreover, the Clontarf to city centre cycle route will be extended from Amiens Street to the quays as part of the traffic calming plan. The 2023 plan envisaged the reallocation of road space from cars to public transport, cyclists and pedestrians, while still retaining access to the city centre and its car parks for private motorists. These measures will significantly improve the environment for cyclists, pedestrians and public transport users, says O’Brien. Changes to the way deliveries operate in the city are also expected this year, with technology used to free up loading bays.

We don’t have to be jealous to notice it – we’re trying to make sense of fairness and what it looks like. As we grow up, the stories we tell ourselves about other people become subtler, more personal, and often morally weighted. Epictetus advises us to stop outsourcing our sense of value to other people and to the things we can’t control. How can we change if we don’t even know who we are?Opens in new window ]Comparison does have a valuable function. What matters to Epictetus is not what anyone else is doing, but whether we ourselves are attending to things we can control.

The summer of 2024 saw the club emerge from the window having twice broken its own transfer record for Adam Idah and Arne Engels. The departure of the talismanic Kyogo Furuhashi to Rennes was sanctioned without a ready-made replacement waiting in the wings. Seemingly acting on the advice of head of football operations, Paul Tisdale, Celtic put their entire stake on Wilfried Nancy. The culture surrounding the entire club is one of complacency, incompetence, convenience and short-cuts. Brian Wilson's appointment as interim chairman following Lawwell's departure also speaks to the unhealthy culture which persists at boardroom level.

Then Larkin ponders how “forty years back” he would have been envied by his parents’ generation. My parents looked at my generation and envied our social mobility, access to education, increased prosperity. Today, when I think of my children having children of their own – something I long for – I sometimes shudder at my own wishes. What I hate most is that I feel pity – sorrow and pity – towards my own children’s generation. With every choice we take, my generation and my parents’ generation make the lives of the young worse.

How’s that Fifa Peace Prize going, Gianni? Today is one month on exactly from the Fifa president’s gross act of brown-nosing at the World Cup draw in Washington. The Fifa Peace Prize was like one of Trump’s Diet Cokes – he was handed it, he downed it, he belched and he moved on. Given recent events, the Fifa Peace Prize, which Gianni Infantino presented to Donald Trump last month, isn’t just some harmless trinket. The Fifa Peace Prize in this context isn’t just some harmless trinket handed over to stop the baby crying because he lost his rattle.
