Trump’s preferred modus operandi will always be transactional power politicsThe US military intervention that toppled Nicolás Maduro was a long time coming. In the week before Christmas, the formidable White House chief of staff Susie Wiles told Vanity Fair that Donald Trump’s objective was to remove the Venezuelan dictator from power. It was more authoritative corroboration of what Trump aides such as Anna Kelly had been saying for months: “The President is prepared to use every element of American power to stop drugs from flooding into our country and to bring those responsible to justice.”

Leinster 52 Connacht 17Joshua Kenny of Leinster breaks clear of Bundee Aki of Connacht on his way to scoring his side's eighth try at the Aviva Stadium. Photo: Brendan Moran/SportsfileThis was the kind of scoreline Stuart Lancaster was used to during his seven seasons in blue and the Connacht coach must have found the experience in the visiting team’s coaching box utterly miserable. Leinster ran in eight tries and played some good rugby along the way, but their style of play is a world away from the all-court way of playing they had when the former England supremo was running the show.

Even beforehand, you would have thought it was going to be there, even though we would have probably preferred a Leinster venue. There’s always chat about that type of thing among fans and so on but that’s not going to do it for us.
