The US has launched new investigations into trading partners including the EU, Japan and Korea, as Donald Trump looks to shore up his tariff wall after the Supreme Court struck down many of his previous levies. US trade representative Jamieson Greer said his “target” was to conclude his fresh investigations ahead of the expiration of the current stopgap levies. The EU parliament last month said that in the wake of the Supreme Court’s ruling it would delay ratifying its trade agreement with Washington. “The Europeans agreed in the Turnberry deal that we could have a certain amount of tariff on them,” Greer said. We’re still waiting for Europe to do a lot of what it promised.”Alongside the EU, countries targeted by the new probe include China, Singapore, Switzerland, Norway, Indonesia, Malaysia, Cambodia, Thailand, Korea, Vietnam, Taiwan, Bangladesh, Mexico, Japan and India.

It was warned that “one of the pressures on the Bull Island hares is from man. In 1981 North Bull Island was recognised by the UN’s heritage body, Unesco, as a ‘biosphere reserve’, still one of only two in the country. Why does it seem inconceivable that Bull Island would not have permanent wardens like any other site of such importance?

The Government has been accused of “failing migrants in a disgusting way” and engaging in “far right rhetoric”. The Labour Party has said the Government must roll out a positive information campaign highlighting the significant role migrants play in Irish society. Labour’s justice spokesman, Alan Kelly, said the Government has “failed relation to this and failed in a very disgusting way”. Mr Ó Ríordáin also said he asked the Government last year to produce an information campaign on migration, but that it had failed to do so. After a meeting on Tuesday between management and the two unions involved, Siptu and Unite, NAS director Robert Morton wrote to those affected on Wednesday. Offers to the newly qualified paramedics will be made in the week of May 11th. The newly qualified paramedics have been given further short-term contracts to take them up to that time. Siptu and Unite said a ballot for industrial action linked to wider pay and grading issues among NAS staff would continue.
