Thomas Tuchel has plenty to think about before naming his 26-man England World Cup squad in JuneON THE PLANEBy my reckoning, there are 21 guaranteed spots among the squad. Uruguay last week and then Tuesday night only served to further indicate the major drop-off between England’s very best – Harry Kane, Declan Rice – and the rest. The same goes for Reece James, while Harry Maguire has to earn a spot despite the manager’s suggestions to the contrary a few days ago. Three goalkeepers – Jordan Pickford, Dean Henderson and James Trafford – should all be there. Morgan Rogers will push for a start and Jordan Henderson acts as the everyman who did impress against Uruguay.

One in three post-primary students now say they learn about money from social media. This statistic, among several recent findings from the Money Advice and Budgeting Service, offers a stark insight into students’ attitudes to finance. But this isn’t so much a financial literacy problem or a simple change in how a generation learns about money, as a shift in what money has become. During the pandemic, many young people encountered financial markets for the first time, often through apps on the same phones they used for social media. This helps explain not only the popularity of social media advice but also the obsession with crypto, investment, side hustles and passive income.

Ryder Cup-winning captain Paul McGinley believes people are running out of patience with Tiger Woods as he is in the "last-chance saloon" in terms of his golfing career. When it was suggested the former world number one was becoming a bigger problem than asset to golf McGinley added: "I don't think Tiger Woods is the root of all evil in the game. "You're never going to say never with Tiger Woods but it's highly unlikely." "It's important for him to protect his legacy in terms of PGA Tour wins and all he achieved on the PGA Tour so he's got skin in the game in that regard. "He's a very important ally for (chief executive) Brian Rolapp in terms of trying to herd everybody behind Rolapp and the PGA Tour's future vision.

Bowel cancer awareness: 'Delay dressed up as progress' Last week the Irish Examiner was part of a campaign raising awareness of a significant disease which affects many Irish people. A cornerstone of the fight against bowel cancer is the screening programme. The change has drawn sharp criticism from Bowel Cancer Ireland, however. On this basis, the frustrations of Bowel Cancer Ireland are easy to understand. This week’s change is clearly beneficial for the 116,000 people who will now be eligible for the free screening programme.

Ambitious targets for renewables and the transition to net zero are driving new infrastructure projects across the UK. Current projects are facing several constraints and bottlenecks, including delays in equipment delivery, ports infrastructure that needs upgraded, and a transmission grid that struggles to absorb new capacity. For example, Ofgem recently noted there is current demand for 140 new data centre projects requiring a 50GW demand in the UK. Addressing the challenges to scaling renewable infrastructure is therefore critical and requires industry collaboration. It has been roundly condemned by political leaders across Northern Ireland. On Wednesday, Naomi Long paid tribute to those who work at the station during a visit, describing the attempted attack as “abhorrent”. “However, this has undoubtedly been a stark reminder that there are still those who want Northern Ireland to live under the shadow of terror and violence. “They offer nothing to our community beyond the disruption and distress caused by their pathetic attempt to achieve some kind of relevance. “What we have seen in Lurgan is deeply chilling and deeply concerning, and I take very seriously what the PSNI say,” he told reporters outside the Oireachtas.

Entries were received from students across the state, and four high school students from Troy, Bryon Center, Jackson, and Saginaw, have been selected as this year’s scholarship winners. Michigan Auto Law, the largest law firm in Michigan that specializes exclusively in helping auto accident victims, created The Kelsey’s Law Distracted Driving Awareness Scholarship in 2016, to honor Kelsey Raffaele, a 17-year-old who tragically lost her life in a cell phone-related automobile crash in 2010. Through this scholarship, and their many community outreach efforts, Michigan Auto Law hopes to inspire change and raise awareness about the dangers of distracted driving, especially with young and inexperienced drivers. Those who violate Kelsey’s Law may be ticketed for a civil infraction by a law enforcement officer. Bonnie remains an invaluable partner to Michigan Auto Law, providing guidance and helping select recipients of the Kelsey’s Distracted Driving Awareness Scholarship each year.

Claim: In April 2026, sculptors began adding U.S. President Donald Trump's face to Mount Rushmore, the national memorial featuring the faces of four previous presidents. Many posts pointed to an article published in the British tabloid The Daily Mail on April 1 titled, "Taking shape: The new face of Mount Rushmore." There was no truth to the claim — there are no approved plans for Trump's face to appear alongside Washington's, Jefferson's, Roosevelt's and Lincoln's, as of this writing. Though the claim in April 2026 originated as a joke, the push to add Trump to Mount Rushmore has received attention in the past. In 2025, U.S. Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla., introduced a bill "to arrange for the carving of the figure of President Donald J. Trump on Mount Rushmore National Memorial."
