The government has convened a crisis meeting to resolve mounting tension over the ownership of the Mwea Settlement Scheme in Mbeere South Subcounty, Embu. At least 20 Haitian gang members were left with life-threatening injuries on Sunday and Monday during a shooting by security operation carried out by the Haitian police jointly with Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS) officers. Kenya leads the MSS mission which is supposed to have 2900 personnel. Officials said the operation was aimed at tracking down armed gangs throughout the national territory and dismantling the Kraze baryè gang. Officials said during the clash, the team also brutally injured the second leader of the Kraze baryè gang, Deshomme. The students urged Mt Kenya region residents, political stakeholders and leaders to support Waiguru to rise to the coveted seat.

Two people were Monday evening killed in a tragic accident after being hit by a vehicle in the Decimo area, Ruaka, Kiambaa constituency, Kiambu County. Police said the vehicle, a new Toyota Land Cruiser SUV, which was involved in the fatal incident, was set on fire by an irate mob following the accident. Kiambaa Sub-county Police Commander Pius Mwanthi said the victims, a man and a woman, were attempting to cross the road on foot when the vehicle hit them. He talked of a worrying rise in accidents along the road in recent times. The accident comes in the wake of increased cases of fatal accidents in the country.

A witness in the impeachment motion against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has claimed the DP made contradictory statements on the sale of the Olive Gardens Hotel. “The allegation that I own the Olive Garden Hotel is false,” Gachagua told MPs. Zambia has officially joined the Central Corridor linking landlocked countries to the Indian Ocean through Tanzania, extending the corridor’s reach south beyond the East African Community (EAC) bloc. Zambia’s Minister of Transport and Logistics, Frank Museba Tayali, signed a formal agreement confirming full membership on October 8 during a Council of Ministers meeting of the Central Corridor Transit Transport Facilitation Agency (CCTTFA) member countries in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo. The Kinshasa meeting was attended physically by the transport ministers of the hosts, DR Congo, Zambia and Malawi, and virtually by the other four countries. “The inclusion of Zambia is expected to further strengthen the Central Corridor’s position as a preferred trade route for regional and international commerce,” the agency said in a statement. The Central Corridor and its counterpart, the Northern Corridor, which runs from the Kenyan port of Mombasa through Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan and the DRC, are considered vital components in promoting economic growth across the eastern Africa region.
