Detectives have destroyed narcotics worth more than Sh176. 5 million at the DCI National Forensic Laboratory following the completion of a court process presided over by senior principal magistrate Njeri Thuku. Deputy Director of the DCI, John Onyango, who represented DCI Director Mohamed Amin said the destruction symbolises the directorate’s unwavering determination to rid society of the drug trafficking and abuse menace. She said that the aim of such an action was to ensure that communities are safe and society is protected. About 400,000 people were killed in the conflict which erupted in 2013, two years after South Sudan achieved independence from Sudan.

After almost 10 years, South Sudan is preparing to establish the Hybrid Court to try those who have committed war crimes and crimes against humanity since the civil war began in 2013. The Transitional National Legislative Assembly recently passed two important bills to create a Hybrid Court, a major milestone in the country’s long search for transitional justice. The government and the major armed opposition SPLM-IO signed a peace deal in 2015 that established the Hybrid Court. The war crimes are political tools of the West to blackmail Africa,” said Ezekiel Lol Gatkuoth, a former South Sudan minister for petroleum. Akol Miyen Kuol, a South Sudanese political commentator, said the nation is fragile and there are doubts whether the Hybrid Court could achieve the desired results.

The Senate is expected to begin the impeachment trial of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Wednesday. The tabling of the evidence by the National Assembly including (evidence of witnesses, if any, cross-examination and re-examination) will be held from noon to 1 pm. The research, published Wednesday in Nature, found the AI tongue is capable of detecting, classifying, and assessing the quality and freshness of different substances. This means that if milk is contaminated, the tongue may be able to detect it.
