Kennedy Medical Center (JFK). Tubman, whose 1961 visit with former U.S. President John F. Kennedy laid the groundwork for USAID funding for a national medical center in Liberia. COPPWIL is the conglomeration of women drawn from all 28 registered political parties in Liberia with the aim of promoting women’s participation in politics and political governance. Receiving the items on behalf of the nurses, the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of the JFK, Madam Sia Watta Comanor, lauded COPPWIL for its kind gesture. Here in Liberia, women have played crucial in all sectors of the society,” the Gender Minister noted.

MONROVIA — The National leadership of the Community Watch Forum of Liberia (CWFL) has renewed calls for support from national government to remain viable, effective and functional as the country grappled with perennial reports of crimes across the country. The National Chairman of the CWFL Mr. I. Nyenati Kaffey disclosed that if President George M. Weah can make a formal declaration of government’s support to the organization, beside that support, he is convinced other international partners will see the need to also rally support to the CWFL. Kaffey: “To accomplish these programs, we need government support, something that would trigger assistance from international organizations and donor partners,” he averred. The Community Watch Forum of Liberia which replaced the Community Policing Forum that was established through the instrumentality of the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) and the Ministry of Justice in 2004, comprises of about 600,000 members across the country that are working in close collaboration with national security apparatus including the Liberia National Police and the Liberia Immigration Service to curb criminal activities in communities across the country.

MONROVIA — The government of Liberia, through the Forestry Development Authority (FDA) and its collaborating partners working in the forestry sector on Wednesday March 3, 2021 observed World Wildlife Day in a lively fashion as far as the intent and purpose of the day is concerned. In separate remarks, the collaborating partners pledged to closely work together to ensure that the true intent of the World Wildlife Day is achieved at all levels, especially in Liberia where the forest and all its elements face potential threats from illegal activities. Miss Deborah Mensah from the Department of Forestry, University of Liberia gave the historical background of World Wildlife Day while Mr. Abenego Gbarway, Wildlife manager and Coordinator of Wildlife Crime Task Force, provided status report on the successes and challenges in combating wildlife crime in Liberia. He acknowledged the conservation practices used by our forefathers; something which he said contributed the current existence of the forest. World Wildlife Day is a global initiative which obligates all countries to celebrate and raise awareness on the importance of the protection and conservation of biodiversity while practically enforcing the law that prohibits illegal destruction of the forest and its biodiversity by poachers.

One American who made Liberia her home was Mrs. Elaine Ruth Armour Wolo of New Orleans, Louisiana. Dr. Lloyd J. Armour, Sr. and Mrs. Frances H. Armour, Mrs. Wolo was the second of 10 children. In 1972, Mrs. Wolo established Armour Wolo Foundation (AWOFO) pre and primary school in Kakata, Liberia while she was an Instructor at BWI. Throughout her career, Mrs. Wolo touched the lives of thousands of students both in Liberia and abroad. Liberia can only be made stronger when it embraces others in the same way Mrs. Wolo loved and embraced Liberia and the Liberian people.

Now that the Supreme Court halted the Commissioners of the National Election Commission (NEC) from being incarcerated, I am inclined to provide a legal opinion. Some believe that the Supreme Court has threaded beyond its scope of operation. The Supreme Court has legal grounds to prevent NEC’s bosses from going to jail, as in the instant case. In this commentary, I have deliberately chosen to avoid touching on the Petition’s allegation or truthfulness of incarceration since it is pending before the Supreme Court for determination. By tying its contempt power around interpreting a constitutional provision, the Senate made its action vulnerable to the Supreme Court’s intervention.

The senators accused NEC of delaying to adjudicate all election related cases within the 30days constitutional period. The averment made by the senators is correct, that NEC board of commissioners have gone beyond the 30 days constitutional timeframe, but does that amount to contempt? How are they directly obstructed or impeded by the action of NEC board of commissioners? So then, where did the senators come from with their contempt charge against the board of commissioners of NEC? Note: In the case before the Supreme Court involving NEC and the Senate, prohibition will lie against the Liberian senate.

The CBL Executive Governor made the statement when he met with the staff and toured the CBL Zwedru office during his recent visit to Grand Gedeh, February 22, 2021. Executive Governor Tarlue briefed staff that the CBL leadership was working with a range of government and international partners to strengthen the CBL itself and improve its work to better serve the people of Liberia. The head of the CBL Zwedru Office, Agnes Payne Wonie-wala briefed the CBL Executive Governor on the operations of the office and pledged their commitment to guarantee effective service delivery in the County.
