MONROVIA – The Liberia Chapter of the African Women Leaders Network (AWLN) distributed $5,850 to 18 female candidates contesting in the December 8, 2020 Senatorial Election. Unless some of the female candidates succeed in their campaigns, Liberia may not have any women in its Senate. “More women will succeed in politics, if women rally around female candidates and raise money to support them”, said Kanneh, who is an independent candidate. “Women candidates need money. The organization seeks to promote African women leaders globally and nationally.

MONROVIA – A Liberian humanitarian based in the United States of America, Ebenezer Norman, is providing free education for 600 children – twice the number he intended the school to host. The school which he constructed under a self-sponsored initiative in 2018 in Johnsonville was intended to host 300 students but is one of the few education facilities in the area. His first venture to provide free education for Liberian children was in 2016 when he constructed a school in Bensonville which was later demolished by Ellen Johnson Sirleaf’s regime due to a land dispute. According to him, his goal is alleviating poverty using the theory of change Education, Entrepreneurship, and Agriculture (EEA). “I have found that education, agriculture, and entrepreneurship are the three main factors that could help lift people out of poverty in Liberia,” he says.

MONROVIA – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs under the Dee-Maxwell Kemayah’s leadership has initiated a reform agenda aimed at enhancing the future of foreign policy agenda of the Republic for effective service delivery and timely response to duties. The transformative agenda which is being implemented under the theme: “Envisioning and enhancing the future of the foreign policy agenda of the Republic of Liberia – during and post COVID – 19”, is lined up with the shared vision of President George Weah. The international community has given a lot to Liberia; Liberia has what it takes to give back and has a voice that will be heard and listened to. He went on urge foreign service workers to build a diplomatic network that would contribute to and enhance national prosperity. Ambassador Delahousse also reminded the Foreign Service workers that the image of the country abroad starts with their representation.

Speaking further Mr. Wettee, who is currently back home in Liberia, disclosed that he had come basically to urge his fellow Liberians to vote ‘yes’ to all the proposals especially the one on dual citizenship. “We are advocating for a yes vote to all the proposals, including the Dual Citizenship, on the Referendum,” Mr. Wettee stressed. “President Weah from his end, he declared his support for dual citizenship in his first year. He was very optimistic that Liberian voters are going to vote ‘yes’ to the referendum especially the one on dual citizenship.

MONROVIA – The chairman of the Collaborating Political Parties (CPP), Mr. Alexander Cummings along with Mr. Benoni Urey, political leader of the All Liberian Party (ALP), a constituent member of the CPP, on Thursday stormed Bomi County on the campaign trail of incumbent Senator Sando Johnson. The chairman of the CPP, expressed delight over the overwhelming welcome and show of support their presence in Bomi County was graced with. “Today, we have taken the message of the CPP to Bomi County, where Sen. Sando Johnson is campaigning for reelection. Urey, joined me to grace the occasion, and I am very glad about the massive support shown by the people of Bomi County. This is the message I have taken to the Liberian people in every county I have visited during this campaign period on behalf of our candidates.

Bellinzona – Alieu Kosiah let out a surprise outburst in his first day in court Thursday, proclaiming his innocence as his trial for war crimes got underway. Alain Werner, the head of Civitas Maxima, is one of the plaintiff’s lawyers in the court. Emeraux has investigated scenes of alleged war crimes that are also in the indictment against Kosiah. Ten years after the Truth and Reconciliation Commission made its recommendation for the establishment of a War Crimes Court, Liberia is yet to prosecute any alleged war criminals. While Kosiah served as commander of the ULIMO, mass atrocities were committed by the ULIMO fighters.

Liberia: All Ballot Papers in the Country for Dec. 8 Senatorial Elections and ReferendumMONROVIA – The National Elections Commission (NEC) says it is pleased to announce that all ballot papers for the 2020 Special Senatorial Elections, Constitutional Referendum and two Representative By-elections in District 9, Montserrado County and District #2, Sinoe County have arrived in the country. According to the National Elections Commission the last batch of ballot papers arrived in the country on Wednesday, December 2, 2020, onboard a special charter flight, Passion Air, via the Roberts International Airport (RIA) from Accra, Ghana. Meanwhile, deployment of elections materials including ballot papers have begun. “Workshops for party agents and independent candidates on Polling and Counting Procedures.”The trainings were conducted in Ganta, Nimba County, Buchanan, Grand Bassa County, Tubmanburg Bomi County and Monrovia, Montserrado County. The Commission calls on all 2.4 million registered voters to turn out on Tuesday, December 8,2020 to exercise their franchise in the Special Senatorial Elections, Constitutional Referendum, Representatives By-elections in District 9, Montserrado County, District 2, Sinoe County.

MONROVIA – Liberia Council of Churches (LCC) President, Bishop Kortu Brown has called for a united effort in the fight to end the spread of HIV and AIDS in Liberia. Bishop Brown encouraged citizens across the country to consider their health as a critical priority, adding that to overcome and end AIDS; the world must stand in solidarity and share responsibility. The LCC asserted that its hearts are with brethrens who have died from AIDS and those living with HIV. UNAIDS is leading the global effort to end AIDS as a public health threat by 2030 as part of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Liberian clergyman maintained that the need to focus on what affects the everyday lives of people should not be taken likely.

Making the donation on behalf of the Watkins Initiative For Nations, Mr. Anthony Mendehdou said the donation is Mr. Watkins own way of identifying with the fire victims. Mr. Watkins is the first person to extend helping hands to us, Mr. Alex Brown, an owner of one of the houses that got burned told journalists in Monrovia. Meanwhile, receiving their separate awards, the Executive Director of African Peer Review Committee, Jeddlee Stephens-Kinnii thanked the Houston Clear Lake University for recognizing his organization effort in promoting autism awareness in Liberia. He vowed never to stop the advocacy for children living with autism, adding that, his organization in partnership with the Houston Clear Lake University has embark on an aggressive journey to supporting children living with autism in Liberia.

Monrovia – The Female Journalist Association of Liberia (FEJAL) thrashed the Female Artists of Liberia 13-4 home runs in the Master Queen Celebrity Tournament at the Blue Field. FEJAL’s captain, Rose Stubblefield inspired her side with two home runs of her own after Geeta Borbor made a fabulous home run to give the Female Artists an early advantage. Following the kick-off, attentions were drawn to the pitch, where the Female Artists started on a brighter pace, when Borbor stroke a thunderbolt that beat the defending FEJAL to make her side first home run. FEJAL regrouped, cutting the Female Artists off from making their second home run in the lst inning again. The Female Artists, then tried to force themselves into the match, but were kept quiet in the second inning as FEJAL’s who some class in their approach of the match.

It’s estimated that it takes at least 2minutes for each vote cast; ranging from identification of name within the FRR, issuance of ballots, voting, packaging & dropping, to inking of finger. Additionally, there’s a likelihood of having votes cast up to 8PM- given that there may be avalanche of electorates still in queue even after 6PM. It goes further to frustrate the resilience of those standing in long queues; and there’s also a likelihood of some disembarking. By ordinary prudence it can be understood that it would take more time for the collation of votes and publication of results on the walls of each polling station. Lest you forget your campaign efforts may just be decimated due to your failure to protect your votes…

Then my well placed sources within the US security and diplomatic circles called me and gave me the names of all who were in the house when Mr. Weah took the call from Mr. Taylor. But what Mr. Weah didn’t know at the time and perhaps up to now is that some of his underpaid close associates work for the nosey, ever present American CIA. I then mentioned the names of all those that were in the house and who all spoke with Mr. Taylor also. Less than three months later Mr. Weah publicly confirmed he had spoken with Mr. Taylor after months of denials….and he later correctly picked Jewel Taylor as his VP running just as the Americans had suggested.
