MONROVIA – The Central Bank of Liberia (CBL) submitted to the legislature several provisions of the Act creating the CBL for amendment consideration. The CBL believes these amendments will solve some of the issues the Bank faces, which limits its capacity to operate effectively. “If the Microeconomic is good no financial institution will want to get their money out of the bank to keep. As of today, we have a currency management committee at the CBL, we will inform the Senate at every stage of the way on the process of printing of money. Monrovia – The Executive Committee of the opposition Alternative National Congress has overturned a decision by majority members of party’s youth wing to suspend its Chairman, Benjamin Myers. According to a document from the party’s Executive Committee, the decision of the youth wing contravenes the party’s constitution. Reading the statement on behalf of the opposing group, Kesselly Mulbah said the action to suspend Myers was in line with the party’s constitution, which was allegedly breached by embattled youth chairman. “The Executive Committee of the Indomitable National Youth Congress has unanimously voted to suspend Mr. T. Benjamin Myers for an indefinite period and forward him to the grievance and ethics committee for investigation,” Mulbah said. At the same time, the Executive Committee has invoked a “Police Power” over the youth wing with immediate effect, pending outcome of the investigation.

Monrovia – Two civil society organizations have donated medical supplies worth over US$8,000 to the Bureau of Corrections and Rehabilitation to provide medical care for prisoners during the COVID-19 pandemic. The implementing organizations are Serving Humanity for Empowerment and Development (SHED) and Rural Human Rights Activist Program (RHRAP). Accepting the items, Edwin McGill, Director of Prisons of the BCR said the donation of the medical supplies was “very timely”. “The nurses are excited that you’ve been a help to making their daily work at prisons easier,” Davis said. Meanwhile, SHED and RHRAP are hopeful that protecting the lives of inmates will be prioritized by both the Government of Liberia, partners and all Liberians.
