FrontPageAfrica sports editor Christopher Walker was inflicted bodily harm, his camera damaged and ruffled to the ground by unruly and overzealous officers of the Liberia National Police. Governments have come and gone but the practice of overzealous security apparatus continue to linger. SADLY, the security apparatus in Liberia today is on the wrong end of the stick, ignoring the decency of humanity, human rights and justice. THE ROLE of the police and security apparatus in any nation is to provide safety and security for all members of society, not just the elite and those at the helm of power. TOO OFTEN we see the overzealousness of security officers taking a toll and threatening Liberia’s effort to remove itself from its ugly past.

Which then brings me to zero in on one Mr Sayma Syrenus Cephus, a man with a dangerous history who plays at being the solicitor general of Liberia. During the NPFL incursion of Liberia, Cephus scored high marks in mayhem, so the NPFL command structure promoted him to lead the reign of terror efforts in three south-eastern counties—Grand Gedeh, Maryland, and Sinoe. Innocent Liberians perished under the bullets of the arch warlord who holds himself as a solicitor general. Cephus set up the murder of the deceased former superintendent of Maryland County in D. Wah Hne, who got wasted at the behest of Moses Blah. Mr Weah must kick Cephus out of his government to redeem himself and show the Liberians and the world that he has a political backbone.

The Wuhan coronavirus (2019-nCoV), aptly named after the Chinese city of its origin, is a respiratory illness that has so far caused 26 deaths and 830 cases and rising across China, according to the New York Times reporting. The Wuhan coronavirus (2019-nCoV) belongs to the same family of diseases as Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) and Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS). To mitigate the threat, Liberia must initiate the following as recommended by the CDC:Establish, if it does not already exist, an incident management and emergency response system that will support any public health response to the outbreak of coronavirus (2019-nCoV) in Liberia. This may be challenging since Liberia may not yet have the testing mechanisms to test for coronavirus (2019-nCoV). I will hope the government makes available the resources necessary to guide against the potential threat of coronavirus (2019-nCoV) in Liberia.
