Tripoli based Libyan Prime Minister and Acting Foreign Minister, Abd Alhamid Aldabaiba, met Sunday with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, at the office of the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During the meeting, several files were discussed that were agreed upon during Aldabaiba’s previous meeting with Turkish President Erdogan, including the return of Turkish airlines flights to Libya, addressing the problems of Libyans’ residency in Turkey, and cancelling visas for citizens of both countries. The meeting also discussed the reconstruction file in Derna and neighbouring municipalities, and, the Libyan government reported, Fidan expressed Turkey’s readiness to contribute and participate in this file.
UNDP Libya announced last Thursday that it had organised a 2-day training programme to equip 30 lawyers, 19 of whom are women lawyers, with the necessary knowledge and skills to promote effective governance in Libya. The training focused on implementing legislation and promoting good governance practices at the national and local levels. Participants discussed the role of lawyers in safeguarding democratic processes based on regional best practices, as well as the inclusivity of women and youth as a means for promoting fair and representative governance at the local level.
