We discuss YouTuber (and apparently now a presidential candidate) Taylor Marshall’s flirtation with the SSPX, as well as recent media statements by bishops speaking favorably of the SSPX. All of the people we discussed are faithful Catholics who happen to be on the conservative side of the spectrum. They are faithful to the Magisterium and are in full communion with the Holy Father and the Church. Finally, we discuss the ecumenical impact of Pope Francis’s announcement that the 21 Martyrs have been recognized as saints by the Catholic Church. In addition to YouTube (please subscribe to our channel), you can listen to The Debrief wherever you listen to podcasts.

Political forces in Sudan welcomed the “Declaration of Principles Agreement” signed between the army and the “Rapid Support Forces” in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, yesterday, and urged strict and serious adherence to what was agreed upon. The “Declaration of Principles Agreement” stipulated that the army and the “rapid support” guarantee the protection of civilians and adhere to them, and allow the passage of humanitarian aid without hindrance. In parallel, the democratic movement welcomed the disputed (Abyei) region between Sudan and South Sudan, the Jeddah Humanitarian Declaration, urging the two parties to implement it on the ground. It requires the military to completely leave power, return to the barracks, and establish a civilian-led government. The outbreak of war between the army and the “rapid support” forces cut off the road to completing the political process, which is close to signing the final political agreement.

France’s financial crimes prosecutors (PNF) said Sarkozy and 12 others should face trial over accusations they sought millions of euros in financing from the regime of then Libyan leader Moamer Kadhafi for his ultimately victorious campaign. Among the others facing trial in the case are heavyweights such as Sarkozy’s former right-hand man Claude Gueant, his then head of campaign financing Eric Woerth and former minister Brice Hortefeux. And he will be retried from November 2023 on appeal in the so-called Bygmalion case, which saw him sentenced to one year in prison at first instance. We thank the Government of National Unity in Libya for facilitating the first official visit of an ICC Prosecutor to Libya in over ten years. I thank the UN Independent Fact-Finding Mission for sharing their expertise and enhancing the Prosecutor’s work to record the experiences of Libyan people. In conclusion, President, the UK remains committed to working with the Prosecutor’s Office and the Libyan authorities to build on this momentum and accelerate progress towards justice. And let me underline our full support to the work of the ICC in its pursuit of justice for victims of the most egregious crimes wherever they may occur.
