The pressure was on Malaysia after losing the first two points but captain Lee Zii Jia extended Malaysia's lifeline by beating world No. 1 Momota 22-20, 21-19 in an epic 59-minute clash to mark his only second win in nine meetings against the two-time world champion. It was also a quick revenge for Zii Jia as he had lost 18-21, 10-21 to Momota on Thursday. "After seeing Aaron-Wooi Yik lose, I knew I had to play my part to raise my teammates' spirit to keep fighting," said Zii Jia. "I didn't want to lose to Momota twice in the same tournament," added Zii Jia, who beat the Japanese en route to winning the All-England in March.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. prosecutors on Saturday said they charged a Saudi-born Canadian man for aiding the Islamic State militant group, alleging he tossed grenades in battle and worked with propagandists who publicized the beheading of hostages including U.S. journalist James Foley. The Department of Justice described the man, identified as Mohammed Khalifa, as a "leading figure" in the English-language media unit of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, also known as ISIS. The department said Khalifa narrated English-language recruitment videos and was a battlefield fighter before he was captured in 2019 by the U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces, a militia group that controls parts of Syria. Islamic State gained global notoriety after releasing videos in 2014 of the beheading of U.S. journalists Foley and Steven Sotloff, and of British aid workers Alan Henning and David Haines. U.S. prosecutors allege Khalifa worked in the unit that publicized the videos.

(Reuters) - Authorities in Oman urged thousands of residents in coastal areas to leave their homes and head to emergency shelters on Saturday as the Gulf state braced for tropical storm Shaheen to intensify into a category 1 tropical cyclone. The Omani National Committee for Emergency Management called for the evacuations in the northern states of Barka and Saham and coastal areas including parts of the capital, Muscat, where Shaheen is forecast to strike on Sunday, bringing high winds and heavy rain. Most of the oil-exporting country's five million people live in and around Muscat. Oman's Civil Aviation Authority said on Friday it expected Shaheen to strengthen into a category 1 tropical cyclone within the next 24 hours, forecasting rough seas and urging residents to keep away from low-lying areas in case of flash flooding. But I’m still here and the government is functioning as usual.” These were the words of Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali when asked on speculation that the UMNO-led state government could fall anytime. Sulaiman declined to comment further on the rumours, saying such talk was common in politics. Since Friday rumours have swirled that the UMNO-led state government, which came into power after Perikatan Nasional took over the state administration from Pakatan Harapan (PH) in March, could change hands again soon. There were claims that four state assemblymen have signed SDs to switch allegiance to PH, which may cause the UMNO-led government to fall. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the UN body for assessing the science related to climate change, formed in 1988, provides governments and policymakers a vital tool to assess and mitigate climate change. Climate change will impact us in whichever part of the globe we live. Economists have recently begun factoring climate change risks into economic models although it is devilishly difficult. For one, despite the sterling work of these scientists, climate change remains mind-bogglingly complex. As an individual effort to avoid the tipping point, we will have to consider a simpler lifestyle, but yet one that is rewarding.

Chairman Jeff Bezos is on the cover of Panchjanya, a Hindi weekly he’s unlikely to have ever heard of. The reason to take the Indian publication’s disapproval seriously is that Panchjanya, “the sound of righteousness,” isn’t any other magazine. Interestingly, Murthy, who’s now just a large shareholder in Infosys, owns, through his family office, three-quarters of Cloudtail, the largest seller of goods made by others on Amazon’s India website. First Bezos’ partner ends up on the wrong magazine cover. It’s enough to turn Amazon’s India headache, building up for more than five years, into a throbbing migraine.

It is all right to deny unvaccinated persons entry into restaurants for dining in because they can still get food in the form of takeaways. Others are worried about the side effects in the long term or are waiting for the crowds at the vaccination centres to thin out. Now that many vaccination centres are being phased out or scaling down, many are being forced to go to private care centres. The government must keep vaccination centres in hospitals open until their services are no longer required. Keeping these centres open will not incur much costs to the government.

Big firms of all types said they plan to boost investment by around 10%, slightly more than the plan three months ago. That suggests incoming premier, Fumio Kishida, who takes the helm Monday, may inherit an economy somewhat less damaged by the pandemic than anticipated. A separate report also showed resilience in the job market, with the unemployment rate holding at 2.8% in August. Kishida is widely expected to compile a sizable fiscal package to shore up the economy and woo voters before national elections expected in November. Today’s results suggest resilience among firms to the spread of the delta variant of coronavirus.
