However, the Prime Minister stressed that corruption in Malaysia is not merely endemic but systemic, and addressing it requires sustained and a lot of efforts. KUALA LUMPUR: The Cardiology Department at Hospital Sultan Idris Shah (HSIS) in Serdang set a new record by treating 76 patients in a single day, including 48 stent procedures, during a 17-hour intensive operation. HSIS Cardiology Department head, Datuk Dr Asri Ranga Abdullah Ramaiah, said the hospital usually manages between 50 to 70 cardiology cases daily, making the 76-patient figure one of the highest ever recorded. "Thankfully, no patients lost their lives, although a few emergency heart attack cases came close, including one patient who required CPR prior to stenting, but all patients survived,” he told Bernama. Out of the 76 patients treated, 26 were emergency cases referred from seven hospitals, including Hospital Kuala Lumpur, Hospital Kuala Pilah, Hospital Seremban, and Hospital CyberjayaIn 2025, HSIS Cardiology Department performed a total of 9,483 coronary angiograms and a record 6,486 PCIs or stent procedures. The hospital is also expanding its workforce, with nearly 30 cardiology trainees and 15 specialists currently on staff.

KUALA LUMPUR: His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, signed the Anti-Bullying Act 2026 at Istana Bukit Tunku here Saturday (Jan 10). This was stated in a post on His Majesty's official Facebook page. The Act, which was passed by Parliament on Dec 3, 2025, aims to establish a specific mechanism to address bullying cases involving all victims as defined and provided for under the Act. The post also stated that an Anti-Bullying Tribunal will be established as a dedicated quasi-judicial body to receive, hear and determine bullying complaints lodged by victims. The tribunal will also be empowered to award appropriate compensation or issue suitable orders for the purpose of protection and justice for victims of bullying.

PETALING JAYA: The possible return of the Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) and Pentaksiran Tingkatan Tiga (PT3) examinations has found support among parents who say the absence of major exams have left students without a sense of urgency and motivation in studies. IPOH (Jan 10): The police have seized 41 machines suspected of being used for illegal bitcoin mining in three separate raids in Teluk Intan. Hilir Perak Police chief ACP Dr Bakri Zainal Abidin said the first raid, conducted on Friday night, resulted in the seizure of 24 machines. He added that two raids early on Saturday led to the confiscation of nine and eight machines, respectively. “All the seizures are believed to be linked to offences under Section 427 of the Penal Code and Section 37 of the Electricity Supply Act 1990, involving property damage and the misuse of electricity supply,” he said in a statement. “Members of the public with any information on such criminal activities are encouraged to report to the police to assist with investigations,” he added.
