Once deemed a basic human needs success story, Sri Lanka is now in its worst economic crisis since independence in 1948. Blaming Sri Lanka’s debt crisis on Chinese loans is not only factually wrong but also prevents understanding the origins and nature of its current crisis. As at April 2021, about 60% of Sri Lanka’s debt was for durations of less than 10 years. Deep-rooted problemsFollowing its 2001 recession, Sri Lanka recovered, before growth declined again after 2012 and the pandemic contraction in 2020. Sri Lanka’s debt crisis is clearly due to the policy choices of successive governments since the 1990s.

WHEN you place a file in a computer's recycle bin and clear it, it is gone forever and you will never get it back. Verdict:FALSEDeleting a file from your computer does not mean that it's gone forever, in fact it is fairly easy to recover a deleted file. The important part is that the computer 'remembers' that the data is there so it does not overwrite it. There are tools that are freely available online that can scan drives for deleted files and recover them. Again forensic tools (like what the police might use) can still recover files deleted this way.

IN order to maintain the health of your handphone's battery, you have to completely drain it before recharging. Verdict:FALSEThis myth actually was true at one point but since the adoption of Lithium Ion (Li-ion) batteries, it's largely false. When charging a partially discharged NiMH or NiCAD battery, you are actually overcharging it which increases the growth of crystals within the battery. These crystals have jagged edges and sharp corners which can harm the insides of the battery and decrease its capacity. Crystal build-up is also the culprit here, it's just that how they build up in a Li-ion battery is different from NiCAD and NiMH.

(Reuters) - Sri Lanka must tighten monetary policy, raise tax and adopt flexible exchange rates to address its debt crisis, a senior International Monetary Fund (IMF) official said on Tuesday. The country of 22 million people has requested loans from the IMF as it struggles to pay for imports amid crushing debt and a sharp drop in foreign exchange reserves that has fueled soaring inflation. "The requirement for fund lending will be progress toward debt sustainability," Gulde-Wolf said, calling on Sri Lanka for measures to increase tax revenues to address critical spending needs. "Monetary policy has to be tightened to keep inflation in check," she said. Gulde-Wolf did not reply to a question on the total value for any IMF package, nor the estimated timing of a conclusion to the negotiations with Sri Lanka.
