The Tenancy Tribunal recently ruled Kāinga Ora–Homes and Communities must pay the Auckland tenant $3000 for ongoing breaches of her quiet enjoyment of her premises. The tenant has been a client of Kāinga Ora for 25 years but her problems began in 2019 with the arrival of a disorderly neighbour in the North Shore suburb of Northcross. Kāinga Ora claimed, at the time, it was in the process of relocating the troublesome neighbour but more than a year later the behaviour continued unabated. When the tenant made her second application for compensation in November 2022, after suffering more months of noisy misery, Kāinga Ora again argued it was in the process of relocating the neighbour. Kāinga Ora acknowledged receiving the tenant’s numerous email complaints, the majority regarding noise, due to the neighbour’s garage being right next to a bedroom of the tenant.

National’s climate moo-turn: Agricultural emissions pricing delayed to 2030National is kicking agricultural emissions pricing to next decade, saying the sector will stay out of the Emissions Trading Scheme and only face an emissions price by 2030. Farmers will begin paying emissions prices in 2025 under the current Government’s proposals. The Government is still ironing out the scheme for how this will happen, but has not shifted from the 2025 date. National’s scheme would measure emissions at the farm level from 2025, but farmers would only begin paying an emissions price in 2030. We have food security problems in NZ and 0 subsidies to help ensure domestic food security.

A photographer has filed a personal injury lawsuit after being seriously injured in a devastating helicopter crash to a wedding day photoshoot — which effectively ended her career. However, shortly after taking off, the Robinson Helicopter Company aircraft’s engine reportedly shut off in mid-air. All four people on board survived the crash but three, including Jordan and the newlyweds, were seriously injured and rushed by rescue helicopter to Christchurch Hospital. According to a Givealittle page set up for the photographer, Jordan suffered spinal fractures as well as five fractured ribs, lung laceration, a fractured sternum, a fractured arm, and fractured feet. The injuries suffered from the crash have essentially put an end to Jordan’s successful career as a top professional wedding photographer in Northland New Zealand.

Chris Luxon looked he’d never even looked at the various debate about GMOs in NZ or any of the objections that have been raised. That same blissful ignorance covered every other topic raised about his parties policies and the downstream effects. Luxon gives me no feeling of confidence that he has even thought about basics like this. The same applies to Luxon’s attitudes on getting the farming industry to pick up their much delayed share of the Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) burden. Yet Luxon was evading about capital gains tax on his own property portfolio and his personal interests in not having capital gains tests, even those as easy as the brightline test.

WorkSafe is taking court action against an Otago company over the 2017 death of a truck driver killed by a vehicle in Bluff. The Otago-based company used contracted truck drivers to transport palm kernel, a kind of animal feed, from South Port to a shed in Bluff where the fatal accident took place. He said while the company had written safety procedures, they were “overly dependent on administrative controls”. The company relied too heavily on workers being vigilant, making no mistakes and following directions, he alleged. He said while reversing he checked his left mirror, saw the hoist of the truck behind him and pressed his brakes, the court heard.

CommentMedia shooting itself in the footRNZ is struggling to control the damage after a rogue journalist started changing international news agency copy without any oversight. Mark Jennings looks at the impact this and other recent misjudgments by news organisations will have on trust in the media. In May 2022 a highly experienced RNZ journalist alerted the broadcaster's management to a story it was running on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Before the current debacle, RNZ also suffered the biggest decline in its trust ranking of the main media outlets in New Zealand. The road back for the media just hit a major speed bump.

Look, I’m not saying ACT are fascist, but amputating Pacific, Ethnic, Māori, Women’s and Youth political voices make their shirts a shade of Sepia doesn’t it? Sepia, chocolate or Bark, whatever the shade of shirt colour, it is a brown though right? A gun centric, public service mutilating free market level basic bitch bigotry we are talking about here right? They are wide eyes acolytes who are believers and I don’t think the vast majority actually understand their policy platform and how dangerous it will be to implement. One of the most discussed moments of the match was star Indian batter Shubman Gill’s dismissal in the second innings on Day 4. Gill was batting on 18 runs when he nicked a delivery by Scott Boland straight into Cameron Green’s hands. As the decision went down to the third umpire, many opined that the ball was clearly visible touching the ground as Green caught it. However, the decision was still deemed as out, and Gill was sent back to the pavilion. However, the early dismissal of the batters once again saw the team collapse and eventually the team got bundled out for 234 runs.
