The survey found two-thirds (63 percent) of people were selling items to save money, while about 42 percent thought the rising cost of living made buying and selling second-hand items more attractive. On average, respondents had 20 unwanted items ready to be sold for a total of $1300.

Warner Bros Discovery is proposing to shut down its news wing, Newshub, from the end of June this year. Discovery ANZ said today’s news was the result of ongoing pressures in the New Zealand media landscape. We’ve now reached a stage where any further reduction in costs means proposing major changes,” he said in a statement. “This is why we are proposing to shut down the newsroom. A man involved in a violent altercation with his South Dunedin neighbour called police to say he "would kill" the man if he returned. Senior Sergeant Anthony Bond, of Dunedin, said police were called to an address in Melbourne St after violence flared at 2.20pm yesterday. A 54-year-old man had called police to say he had punched his 60-year-old neighbour and would kill him if he came back. The alleged assailant then called 111 himself and told operators he punched a man and would kill him if he came back. The man is due to appear in court today charged with assault and threats to kill.

Hopkins then got a Lime bike and went to the address thinking if something did go wrong he could just bike off. Once he got down to the end of the street he saw someone shining what appeared to be a torch. Hopkins says police told him the groups had filmed several assaults and uploaded them to a private group. When he puts the bins out at night he fears he will be attacked and has regular flashbacks of the offending. The victims were "lured" to areas late at night and then attacked by members of the group.

The 43-year-old’s offending was described as “deliberate and gratuitous” and the court heard he “blamed” the boy for the offending and had shown no remorse. The man and one of the women arrived late to the hui and a social worker spoke with them at their vehicle. The little boy was covered in bruises, lacerations and burns. She said he had a lengthy criminal history including family violence - but no previous convictions relating to child abuse. Justice Dunningham said the man “blamed” the little boy’s behaviour for the abuse and did not acknowledge his own actions.

The housing market bulls could happily trumpet a 23% year-on-year rise in mortgage advances for the January 2024 month, according to new figures. They saw their share of mortgage money hit an all-time high in December of 25.2%. The January 2024 figures show that in the month the FHB grouping took $822 million of mortgage money, which is 24.1% of the total. On an annual basis the investor grouping went from a 32% share of the total mortgage monies advanced, to just 17% last year. The FHB grouping, which long languished behind investors in terms of the monthly total of borrowing, has now had a higher monthly total than the investors each month since March 2022.
