I have never been much into fashion, but I never realised what is happening till I came across a video of American comedian-turned-commentator Hasan Minhaj on ‘fast fashion’. I have been thinking about that a lot since the recent floods caused massive destruction in Pakistan. For sure, it is not the only or even a major factor, but I think the surge of fast fashion in Pakistan did play its part in exacerbating the climate change phenomenon, which actually caused excessive rains and the consequent flooding. Apart from the environmental harm, fast fashion is harming us psychologically, too. I think it is time we made sustainable fashion choices while caring for the earth and ourselves.

Share:The news conference of a tearful Senator Azam Swati brought tears to the eyes of all Pakistanis and the shameful act of sending an “obscene video clip” to the senator’s wife made the whole nation bow its head in shame. There are no words in any dictionary of the world’s languages to condemn this ghastly, gruesome and horrible act by the unknown characters and enemies of the country. Our political parties and the political characters forget the basic ethical values and even don’t mind crossing all the moral values when disagreeing or opposing their political rivals. Such politics are of the dirtiest form presently prevailing in any part of the world and needs to be condemned forcefully by all segments of the society. Our political leadership has gone so low in ethics and morality that they not only use abusive language but even don’t hesitate in threatening their opponents with making their dirty videos public.

Canadian coach John Herdman was hopeful both Eustáquio and Davies would be ready for Canada’s World Cup opener against Belgium in Qatar on Wednesday. The win against Japan pushed Canada’s record to 3-2-3 since its successful World Cup CONCACAF qualifying run concluded last March. Japan enters the World Cup ranked 24th, compared to Canada at 41.

Breast cancer is curable if detected early, but there are several factors that hamper an early diagnosis. Majority of women themselves tend to ignore the need for timely screening, and then there are those with limited access to clinics and hospitals. Even when there are no issues related to affordability, access and willingness, the rather conservative social environment prevents them from sharing their concerns with family members. All these factors combine together to take away lives of more than 40,000 women every year in the country. We need to educate women about self-examination, and remove barriers to early detection in order to save precious lives.

Now industrial units have also joined them as they have started using wood and coal as fuel. The textile industry has been hit the hardest by the gas crisis as they have to keep their boilers burning. But due to non-availability of gas, they are forced to burn wood or coal, which adds to environmental pollution. This could put textile exports to the US and the EU in risk because these Western importers are very particular about the industry's role in climate change.
