THE low pressure area (LPA) last seen over Catanduanes in Bicol Region may remain at the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) in the next three days but has a slim chance of developing into a tropical depression, the state-run weather agency said on Tuesday. Aldczar Aurelio, weather specialist of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), told The Manila Times that the weather disturbance was spotted past 3 a.m., Tuesday, some 190 kilometers north-northeast of Virac, Catanduanes or 340kms east of Infanta, Quezon. "According to our forecast track, the LPA may remain within PAR over the next three days but it is not likely to transform into a storm as it may eventually exit the country," Aurelio said. However, the weather disturbance is bringing cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Visayas, Bicol Region and Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan) in the next 24 hours, the Pagasa weather forecaster said. It said Metro Manila and the rest of the country will likely have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the localized thunderstorms.

The SAR government is expected to make a decision in August on reducing the hotel quarantine for inbound travelers to three or five days from the original one week of isolation, according to sources. Commenting on the news, the manager of the Federation of Hong Kong Hotel Owners, Chan, said authorities have yet to make contact with the trade regarding any plans to reduce the hotel quarantine. She believed that inbound travelers will still have to go into isolation for seven days even if their hotel quarantine period has been shortened, with those days replaced with home quarantine. He also said the government should introduce the red and yellow color-coded pass function on the LeaveHomeSafe app before announcing the quarantine reduction. Authorities previously said they would give a red code to people who are infected and yellow to arrivals from overseas under medical surveillance.

The rapidly spreading monkeypox outbreak represents a global health emergency, the World Health Organization‘s highest level of alert, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said on Saturday. The WHO label – a “public health emergency of international concern” – is designed to sound an alarm that a coordinated international response is needed and could unlock funding and global efforts to collaborate on sharing vaccines and treatments. The WHO and national governments have been facing intense pressure from scientists and public health experts to take more action on monkeypox. PHOTO FROM THE GCFThus, in 2010 the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) agreed to form what would become the Green Climate Fund (GCF). I have long been highly skeptical of the GCF, which is, as they say, an unpopular opinion. This was the title: "Green Climate Fund Board approves new climate funding, bringing assets under management to USD40 billion." These new projects bring the total number of projects in the GCF portfolio to 200, accounting for $10.8 billion in GCF resources. We do not have time for this nonsense, and neither does the world at large.
