Four government websites have come under a cyberattack this morning (May 18), says Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Readiness Team (SLCERT). Accordingly, the official websites of the Ministry of Health, Rajarata University, Ministry of Energy and the Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka had been compromised in the said cyberattackThree of these websites have now been restored, the SLCERT said further. Speaking on the matter, SLCERT said an increase in the number of website defacements were observed around this time of the year in the past. Seven government websites fell victim to cyberattacks on May 18 last year. Cyber Security Engineer at SLCERT, Ravindu Meegasmulla said necessary measures have been taken to prevent such cyberattacks.

PickMe, the app driven digital mobility company has taken several new measures to further strengthen safety measures for their drivers and customers. They have entered a partnership with the police, to ensure that local police authorities are present at 12 temperature checkpoints set up in and around Colombo for regular checks of PickMe drivers. In addition they have placed placards and stickers in the vehicle fleet to remind customers and drivers of the safety protocols to be followed. Tourist service centers will be established along the road network connecting the major tourist cities of the country. Under the first phase, 28 tourist service centers will be constructed in Nuwara Eliya, Kandy, Badulla and Kegalle districts, said Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga. They revealed that two of the sites had been recovered while the remaining are still malfunctioning. CERT also stated that there has been a significant increase in cyber security violations during this period of the year. They requested that all professionals involved in government websites to take precautions as the websites may be compromised.
