US Senior Advisor for African Affairs, Massad Boulos, has called for Libya to adopt a unified 2026 budget to bolster financial stability and protect the dinar’s value and citizens’ purchasing power. His remarks came during a call with Belqasem Haftar, head of the so- called development and reconstruction fund, joined by US Chargé d’Affaires Jeremy Brendt. He also stressed the need to enable development projects nationwide and praised the Fund’s efforts, according to a post on X. Earlier this week, Belqasem Haftar rejected the outcome of US-sponsored economic talks held in Tunisia, saying they were “not binding”. He said participants Refaat Al-Abbar and Fakher Bouferna did not represent eastern and southern regions on key economic and development matters, adding that the process in its current form “obstructs the national development project.”
