MALAYSIANS, especially sports fans, are justifiably elated by the wonderful performance of the country’s badminton team in reaching the semi-finals of the Sudirman Cup in Vantaa, Finland. After all, the Indonesian team was a star-studded outfit, with players who have won various top-notch tournaments over the years, including the Olympics. That our players were able to upset the form book and upstage the Indonesian team 3-2 in the quarter-finals speak volumes of their perseverance and exemplary team spirit. Kudos to our young team for rising to the occasion and for exhibiting a very high level of professionalism in all their matches during the tournament. Even though Malaysia were beaten by Japan in the semi-finals, our team had surpassed all expectations by getting to that stage.
