The proposed 49.5MW Malagarasi Hydropower Project, meant to improve power supply in western Tanzania, is steadily developing. According to the African Development Bank’s (AfDB) energy portal, the hydropower plant will utilise the Igamba Falls stage III with associated facilities (a switchyard in Malagarasi). Update on Tanzania hydropower and transmission projectsThe proposed grid-connected hydropower plant should provide an average annual energy production of 181GWh once completed. According to a recently posted Implementation Progress and Results Report by the AfDB, the Malagarasi Hydropower Project (HPP) is mostly on track. Compensation for people displaced by the hydropower plant and transmission line is also ongoing.
