The Times and The Sunday Times have launched a new weekly political podcast, The State of It, hosted by four Westminster journalists. Patrick Maguire, Gabriel Pogrund, Steven Swinford and Caroline Wheeler will combine their reporting experience to bring listeners insider conversations, tip offs and analysis from the centre of British politics. The first episode will be recorded live at the Labour Party Conference and released on Tuesday 30 September, with the second episode following from the Conservative Party Conference. A local news journalist who returned to his first paper nearly 20 years after leaving to become a teacher has died aged 56. Neil Brandwood, pictured, began his career at the Bury Times in 1993 and recently rejoined the Newsquest-owned title as a reporter. After leaving the Bury Times in 2005, Neil worked as a teacher and in PR. He returned to the Bury Times this year, and quickly reconnected with old contacts. He worked with me at the Bury Times and later became a good friend as well as a valued colleague.

Police were called multiple times to a group of men fighting on Park Road near Regent’s Park at around 3.45pm on September 27. A video shows the men attacking each other in the middle of the road in front of halted traffic before a car drives straight into them.
