UK pro-life leaders warn of ‘disaster’ in outsourcing assisted dying to private sectornull / Credit: Drop of Light/ShutterstockBy Madeleine TeahanLondon, England, Mar 11, 2025 / 14:45 pm (CNA). Leading pro-life campaigners in England and Wales have expressed alarm following reports that Westminster’s proposed “assisted dying” process might be outsourced to private companies. “Introducing assisted suicide to the U.K. would be a disaster waiting to happen, made potentially even worse if outsourced to the private sector,” she said. “It could easily create a perverse incentive to push assisted suicide on patients where, in a specialized Dignitas-like service, an assisted suicide business seeks to assist in ending the lives of their clients as quickly and efficiently as possible in order to maximize profits,” she added. The government health secretary, Wes Streeting, has made no secret of his concern that legalizing “assisted dying” would place too much pressure on the NHS.

My name is John Hunt and I am blessed to be Carol's husband, and Hannah, Louise and Amy's dad. That you had to consider the evidence was purely down to Kyle choosing to not admit responsibility. I so wanted to deliver these words, eye to eye with Kyle. When I was first invited to provide a victim impact statement, I initially misunderstood its purpose. Do I really need to detail the impact of having three quarters of my family murdered?

Other features enabled by the app will allow parents to see who their child follows, who is following the child and which accounts the child has blocked. Write to letters@thetimes.co.ukSir, Further to your report “Planning shake-up to spur ‘building boom’”, (Mar 11), what is needed is a way of forcing developers to build on the sites for which they have already obtained planning permission. There are two sites in the centre of our village that have been sitting undeveloped for nearly ten years. In a nearby town a pub was illegally bulldozed more than five years ago, planning permission was granted for housing there yet it remains an empty site. And in an adjacent village a large site also has permission for hundreds of houses but remains undeveloped. The problem is not new sites for development but building on the sites that already have planning consent.

Live EventsOnly temporary business mobility visas fall within the purview of the ongoing India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations and other categories, including student visas, will not form part of the pact, the UK government has informed peers during a House of Lords debate. "On visas... our negotiations consider only business mobility, so they cover only relevant business visas, which are, by their nature, limited, temporary and for specific purposes. Student visas are not part of the trade deals," he said. In any trade agreement, one of the main ambitions is to reduce the tariffs that UK exporters face. So, I'm cautiously optimistic and hope that it (FTA) doesn't take that long," he said.
