The Washington Post named longtime staffer Liz Seymour as its newest managing editor on Thursday. Seymour, who has been with the paper for 25 years, will get bumped up from her current role as executive features editor to managing editor, a title three other WaPo employees have. “No one is a fiercer advocate for Post journalism than Liz,” Executive Editor Matt Murray said in a note to employees. She has a Bachelor’s degree from Smith College and earned her journalism Master’s degree from Columbia University. “The formidable Washington Post newsroom is unlike any other I’ve experienced,” Seymour said in a statement.
The question becomes: Will Senate Republicans, who have an advice-and-consent role when it comes to presidential nominations, actually sign off on all this? That means that, if all Democrats vote against these picks, four Republican senators being opposed would torpedo them. But Republican senators must also be concerned about what giving in would entail. An aide for the representative reportedly told the publication Rep. Pelosi was referring to reporting by Reuters that claimed Biden was now deporting more people than Trump. That article, however, made no such claim and instead said Biden was on pace to surpass any single year of Trump-era deportation figures by the end of fiscal year 2024, the Washington Post explained. “So at a basic level, Pelosi’s claim is wrong, even on deportations as measured by Reuters,” The Washington Post wrote. “Meanwhile, even with a broad focus, Trump failed to match Obama’s record on deportations.”Rep. Pelosi's comment, the Post decided, earned her four Pinocchios.
Massachusetts Democrats are planning a rally for transgender rights after Rep. Seth Moulton, D-Mass., spoke out against trans athletes in women’s sports. “In the wake of Trump’s election and Seth Moulton’s recent transphobic comments, I am working with local LGBT organizations and local leaders on a large rally in Salem outside of Moulton’s office,” Davis told Fox News Digital. The source told Fox News Digital, however, that Moulton’s office had been contacted by Tufts University Political Science Department Chair David Art on the matter. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., attacked the Green Party presidential ticket after the party’s vice presidential nominee, Butch Ware, spoke out against transgender athletes in women’s sports. When those polled were asked specifically about adult transgender female athletes competing on women’s sports teams, 69% opposed it.

WASHINGTON—President-elect Donald Trump said he would nominate environmental lawyer and vaccine skeptic Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to serve as health and human services secretary, putting a noted critic of U.S. public policy atop the country’s vast health bureaucracy. Trump transition team co-chair Howard Lutnick previously had said that Kennedy wouldn’t head the department if Trump won the election. Like other Trump allies, Kennedy has spent much of his time at Mar-a-Lago, Trump’s private Florida club. Antiabortion groups were hopeful that a Trump health department would tighten access to abortion pills. Kennedy founded the nonprofit Children’s Health Defense, where for nearly two decades he continued to question vaccine scientists and public-health officials.
On Thursday, Israel’s military for the second day in row said its troops were reaching new targets in southern Lebanon. The soldiers were killed in a firefight with at least four Hezbollah fighters who ambushed Israeli troops inside a building, according to an initial Israeli probe. Since the start of October, Israeli troops have killed hundreds of Hezbollah operatives. They have also been razing villages along Lebanon’s border, destroying underground fortifications and seizing weapons, including advanced antitank missiles, according to the Israeli military. Israeli military spokesman Lt. Col. Nadav Shoshani declined to say where and how much deeper Israeli troops have advanced into Lebanon.
