“I want to see more rom-coms that have women that look like me, women that look like you, in the forefront,” Ashley tells me. Her portrayal of Kate Sharma in “Bridgerton” marked a significant step forward— not just for her career, but for South Asian representation in mainstream media. And I actually think it’s the complete opposite.” - Simone AshleyDetermined to break that mould, Ashley was able to take an active role in shaping Pia’s character. As a Canadian, I’m reeling from the unraveling of a relationship I once believed to be unshakeable — a bond between our two nations that felt secure and enduring. Trump destroyed it and now rubs his cruelty and ignorance in our faces with every new threat of a tariff. As Prime Minister — not governor — Justin Trudeau recently noted, “We don’t want this.” We’re Canadian — polite, considerate, maddeningly the first to apologize. But right now, I don’t know a single Canadian saying, “I’m sorry.” Trump’s vicious, catastrophic, and destructive words and actions maim. And in our conservative Christian circles, where mental health issues were seen as a result of not having enough faith, taking medication was actively disparaged. And antidepressants did help, until several years later when a doctor (who wasn’t a psychiatrist) convinced me I should go off medication. Therapy on its own wasn’t working because the depression felt so oppressive. Taking medication for mental illness already holds a fair amount of stigma. Many people already feel ashamed for taking medications for their mental health; many more may not even consider medication as an option for fear of being judged or stereotyped as crazy or weak.

“Please note that, by this memorandum, OPM is not directing agencies to take any specific performance-based actions regarding probationary employees,” reads the updated OPM guidance. This is almost certainly a factor in the Trump administration’s decision to suddenly revise its OPM guidance. But the judge’s ruling last week has resulted in some federal agencies scrambling to rehire people they just fired. The National Science Foundation, for one, is trying to reinstate 84 employees it fired as part of OPM’s directive. “The government has not followed any of those [rules] in terminating employees to date, to include the mass firing of probationary employees,” Wilson said.
