US to send anti-missile system to IsraelThe US will send an advanced anti-missile system to Israel and troops to operate it. The Terminal High-Altitude Area Defence (THAAD) can defend against long, medium and short-range ballistic missiles. For context: This is not the first time the US has deployed a THAAD battery to the region. Joe Biden directed the military to deploy one to the Middle East last year following the 7 October attacks to defend American troops and interests in the region. The US previously deployed a THAAD battery to Israel in 2019 for training and an integrated air defence exercise.

Northern Lights dazzle in North East and CumbriaThe Northern Lights have once again been visible across large swathes of north-east England and Cumbria. According to BBC Weather, it was the strongest and most widespread show of lights in the UK since May. The phenomenon, also known as aurora borealis, occurs when charged particles from the Sun collide with gases in the Earth's atmosphere around the magnetic poles. Scientists have likened it to "a big sneeze by the Sun". As the particles collide with the gases, light is emitted at various wavelengths, creating colourful displays in the sky.

You can inoffensively refer to your mother-in-law’s derriere in her hearing; I don’t know which other word you can do that without coming off as a despicable character. For NBI, is for peaceful and mutually beneficial utilisation of the Nile, shouldn’t allow any member country to regard another as the derriere of the Nile ecosystem. NBI should primarily rely more on scientific than political considerations which tend to narrowly categorise members as upstream (water contributors) vs downstream (water users). The openly voiced fear today is that downstream Egypt can deploy militarily to mess up upstream Ethiopia by setting-up non-member Somalia as a potential battleground in the process. NBI should leverage the huge power generation capacity along the Nile in Ethiopia and Uganda with the industrial advancement of Egypt to hasten economic development in the Basin.

Researchers are pushing for the increased production of sugar beet, a type of root vegetable, to supplement the high demand for sugar and sweeteners in Kenya. “The sugar deficit that we experience as a country can be addressed by adopting the growth of sugar beet and processing it to extract sugar,” he told Business Daily. Sugar beet is a root vegetable grown for its high sugar content and serves as one of the two main global sources of sugar, alongside sugarcane. To seal the sugar deficit, sugar beet is the most viable option," Mr Kariuki said. Describing sugar beet as a multi-purpose crop, Mr Kariuki said that other by-products from sugar beet include agricultural lime, animal feed, fuel, polymers, and ethanol.
