July Charter final draft to be sent to parties ‘within Thursday’National Consensus Commission Vice-Chairman Ali Riaz has said the final draft of the July National Charter will be sent to political parties by Thursday. Based on extensive dialogue with political parties over reforms, a “comprehensive integrated draft” was previously created from the parties' feedback on the initial draft. The final draft has been prepared based on the opinions provided by the parties on that document. Twenty-six parties submitted their feedback within the given deadline. The parties said that if any opportunity for constitutional reform is created outside of the parliament, they are "more likely not to sign" the charter.

Government writes to Interpol to issue red notice for three garment factory ownersThe interim government has written to Interpol seeking a red notice against three garment factory owners who reportedly fled abroad without paying workers their due salaries and benefits. The notice will target Shahadat Hossain Shamim, managing director of TNZ Group; Itemad Ud Daulah, chairman of DIRD Group; Nabeel Ud Daulah, managing director; and Mamunul Islam, managing director of Roar Fashion Limited. The information and broadcasting ministry said in a media statement on Monday, “The government has taken the initiative to issue an Interpol red notice against the owners of three garments over allegations of negligence in paying workers their rightful dues and for staying abroad for an extended period.”The letter, signed by the additional inspector general of Police Headquarters, was sent to Interpol for the notice, it added. Earlier, during Eid-ul-Azha, when workers demanded their salaries and festival bonuses, the government had announced that if factory owners failed to comply, their vehicles and properties could be sold off to ensure payment. The initiative follows cases filed by the Ministry of Labour and Employment in multiple courts, the statement said.

Sheikh Razibul Hasan, additional deputy commissioner (ADC) of DMP’s Counter Terrorism Research and Development (CTRD), has been suspended from his post. The notification said it is necessary and appropriate in the public interest to relieve Razibul from government service temporarily. Accordingly, he has been suspended from duty from Aug 25 under Section 39(1) of the Government Service Act. During his suspension, he will be attached to the office of the Sylhet Range deputy inspector general (DIG) and will receive allowance as per regulations, it added. A student shot in the New Market area of Chattogram during the Anti-discrimination Movement in 2024 has filed attempt-to-murder charges against former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and 181 others. The victim named AKM Nurullah filed the case in the court of Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrate Abu Bakar Siddique on Monday, almost a year after the incident. Plaintiff’s lawyer Tasnim Akhter Nishat told bdnews24.com that Nurullah filed the case after being shot in the New Market area on Aug 4, 2024. The case alleges that on Aug 4, 2024, Nurullah participated in a protest in the New Market area, where students were attacked. He was shot in both legs and other parts of his body by Awami League, Chhatra League, and Jubo League activists on the accused’s orders.

The inquest into journalist Wahid Uz Zaman Bulu’s death has revealed multiple injuries, including a crushed face and broken arms, after his body was recovered in Khulna, reports bdnews24.com. Police recovered the 60-year-old journalist’s body around 8:15pm on Sunday from under Khulna’s Khan Jahan Ali Bridge, later identified by family members. The government has extended the tenure of the commission formed to investigate the Bangladesh Army jet crash at Milestone School and College in Uttara. According to a notification, the tenure of the commission, and the deadline for submitting its report have been extended until Sept 23. On Jul 21, a fighter jet crashed into Milestone School and College in Uttara’s Diabari, killing and injuring many, mostly children. Six days later, on Jul 27, the government formed a nine-member inquiry commission, headed by former secretary AKM Zafar Ullah Khan, to determine the cause of the crash, assign responsibility, and assess damages. The commission was initially asked to submit its report within four weeks.
