Gulshan Police Station chief Hafizur Rahman said the body of the 50-year-old Terrence Arvelle Jackson was recovered from his hotel room on Sunday afternoon, reports bdnews24.com. The American embassy in Dhaka later took custody of the body without a postmortem after confirming natural causes of death, he added. An embassy doctor examined the body before it was taken into embassy custody. Investigators from CID, PBI and other units also visited the scene.

Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) has been declared closed indefinitely following an attack by alleged outsiders to free the vice-chancellor and around 200 teachers and officials who had been confined by protesting students. Students have been ordered to vacate their residential halls by 9am Monday, said Proctor Professor Abdul Alim. He added that the emergency syndicate meeting, held online at 9:30pm Sunday, decided to shut the university “until further notice". Despite a referendum among students, the university authorities have yet to take a final decision. At least 10 people, including students and journalists, were injured in the incident.

A survey has found that 41.9 per cent of students in Bangladesh’s higher education institutions face different forms of discrimination on campus. Among those affected, 51 per cent were female students and 49 per cent were male. It shows that 56 per cent of public university students, 19 per cent of private university students, and 5 per cent of medical college students reported facing discrimination. Around 23 per cent faced discrimination due to financial reasons, 29 per cent due to body image, and 30 per cent due to political differences.
