DHAKA, Dec 21, 2025 (BSS) - Inflow of remittances witnessed a year-on-year growth of 9.5 percent reaching US$2,172 million in the twenty days of December, according to the latest data of Bangladesh Bank (BB) issued today. Last year, during the same period, the country's remittance inflow was $1,983 million. During the July to Dec 20, 2025 of the current fiscal year, expatriates sent remittances of $15,211 million, which was $13,121 million during the same period of the previous fiscal year.

File PhotoDHAKA, Dec 21, 2025 (BSS) – A court here today imposed travel ban on Faisal Karim Masud, main suspect in the grisly murder of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Shaheed Sharif Osman Hadi. Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Awlad Hossain Mohammad Zunaid passed the order upon a petition of the investigation officer (IO) in the case. Section 302 (murder) of the code was added in the case following an order of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Siddique Azad upon a petition of the IO filed on December 20. Hadi was shot in his head in the broad daylight at Paltan area on December 12. The government later sent him to a hospital in Singapore where he succumbed to his injuries there on Thursday.

DHAKA, Dec 21, 2025 (BSS) - A total of 5,949 people have been arrested so far under the ongoing nationwide Operation Devil Hunt Phase-2, Home Ministry confirmed. The large-scale operation is going on involving extensive vehicle checks across multiple areas to curb illegal activities. As a result of the searches, 356 illegal motorcycles were seized for violations related to registration and other legal requirements. Authorities stated that the operation is ongoing and aims to strengthen law enforcement, improve public safety, and crack down on criminal activities. The nationwide security drive relaunched on December 13 to curb illegal activities, recovering unlawful arms, and to strengthen law and order ahead of the upcoming national parliamentary elections.

95.4 % of schools, 87.5% of healthcare facilities have access to improved water sources: BBSDHAKA, Dec 21, 2025 (BSS) – About 95.4 percent of schools and 87.5 percent of healthcare facilities have access to improved water sources. However, when measured against the definition of basic water service — which requires the improved water source to be located within the premises — the proportion of compliant institutions drops. The survey findings said despite significant gaps in sanitation, access to improved water sources appears relatively high. Just 55.4 percent of schools have disability-friendly access to improved water points, while the figure is even lower in healthcare facilities at 40.9 percent. Only 11.1 percent of schools and 34.9 percent of healthcare facilities have a dedicated budget allocation for WASH.

On October 8, the prosecution formally filed charges, and arrest warrants were issued against all 17 accused.

DHAKA, Dec 21, 2025 (BSS) - Health officials today said they recorded 194 fresh cases of dengue onslaughts, killing at least two persons in the past 24 hours. "We recorded deaths of two dengue patients in 24 hours ending at 8 am today," a spokesman of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said adding his office simultaneously recorded 194 fresh cases of dengue onslaughts during the same period. "Out of the 194 fresh cases, 32 were hospitalised in Barishal division, 45 in Chattogram division, 26 in Dhaka division excluding capital, 22 in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and 28 in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) areas, 23 in Khulna division, five in Mymensingh division, 12 in Rajshahi division and one in Rangpur division, a Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) statement said. Since the start of the dengue onslaughts Bangladesh this year witnessed so far 412 deaths while the disease inflicted 101,791. The dengue last year claimed 575 lives and inflicted 1,01,214 people in the country.

Authorities also ordered the closure of the outlet for three days. The fine was imposed during a special drive conducted on Saturday by the Magura District Office of the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection. Assistant Director of the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection at the Magura District Office, Sajol Ahmed, said that evidence of serious irregularities and extremely unhygienic food production was found at Muslim Sweets during the drive, prompting the authorities to impose the fine. Police personnel assisted in the drive.

The namaz-e-Janaza of six Bangladeshi peacekeepers, who were killed in a drone attack on a UN peacekeeping base in Sudan’s Abyei region, was held on Sunday morning at the central mosque of Dhaka Cantonment. Representatives from the Chief Adviser, Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Md Nazmul Hassan, and Chief of Air Staff Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan, among others, attended the Janaza held at 9:15am. After the janaza, tributes were paid to the slain soldiers on behalf of the president and the chief adviser.
