government's plan to build 130,000 multi-unit homes 'won't solve the shortage.' The province estimates the initiatives could create 130,000 new, small-scale homes over the next decade. In 2018, the city approved a housing plan that effectively spelled the end of single-family zoning in the city. Dear Liz: I’m receiving numerous email offers from big banks offering significant incentives and bonuses to open checking and savings accounts. I usually don’t pay much attention to them but the latest one is offering $900 to open these accounts. Answer: Banks offer these incentives to lure in new customers, but you’re wise to consider all the potential costs because the bonuses may be less lucrative than they appear. Plus, many banks that offer sign-up incentives pay a paltry interest rate or no interest at all. Answer: Qualified charitable distributions can be a great solution for people who have saved more in their retirement accounts than they need and who want to benefit good causes.

Others nominated for the awards she received are victims, as are her Indigenous fans, says Tim JohnsonTim Johnson feels strongly that “any and all” Juno awards given to Buffy Sainte-Marie intended to recognize Canadian and Indigenous musicians, should be rescinded. He has been a Juno awards judge for the Indigenous arts category. Sainte-Marie’s Power in the Blood won the award, which is intended to recognize Indigenous artists. It was our first time trying this new strategy where we don’t exchange, so we weren’t super sure what to expect. We were very nervous to go out and try something new, but we’re very happy with today’s result. We’ve often struggled off the start, myself especially because I’m a little slower, but we nailed that aspect of it today. We’re happy to get this first one done and are looking forward to improving for the next one. The Japanese have a great team, and we have a one-second gap to close on them, so a few weeks of training and perfecting the strategy will hopefully help us push for the top of the podium again.”

This week’s Freedom Defender—picked by Josh—is Ryan O’Connor, Partner with Zayouna Law Firm. Here’s Josh’s summary:I picked Ryan because Ryan has fought against so many insane COVID-19 restrictions in cases that don’t always get a lot of media attention but that mean a lot to the people involved. Ryan shamed the Ontario government into allowing gyms to open for people with disabilities during the January 2022 lockdown, which was discriminatory at a time when Leafs, Sens and Raptors were allowed to go to gyms. Just this past week, Ryan successfully secured the withdrawal of charges against people facing $6,000 fines for showing up at the border without valid PCR test results during the pandemic. Way to go, Ryan!
