Dear Liz: I am trying to get my credit score figured out and was wondering if you have any recommendations for a credit report guru in my area? Understand first that you don’t have just one credit score: You have many, and they change all the time based on the information in your credit reports. Consider signing up for a service that provides you a free score that you can monitor over time. (You may be able to get a free credit score from your bank or a credit card issuer. In general, you can improve your scores by paying bills on time, using 10% or less of your available credit limits and having a mix of credit types (credit cards and installment loans).

I didn’t vote for Doug Ford when he ran for the leadership of the Progressive Conservative Party. But Doug Ford really is a man of the people. In spite of these issues (and others that I am sure his critics will point out), Doug Ford won the last Provincial election by a significant margin. When Doug Ford gets the bit between his teeth, he doesn’t let go. Doug Ford is not perfect, but on balance, I believe he has proven time and time again that he has Ontario’s back.

Q: Our bylaws require 2-year residency before eligibility to serve on our board, BUT we’re desperate for a treasurer with experience. E.G., PowayA: Civil Code Section 5105(c) was amended several years ago to list one mandatory eligibility standard — membership in the HOA — and four optional eligibility standards that could be stated in bylaws or election rules. The statute did not say that these were the only allowable optional standards, but most lawyers have opined that the list is exclusive, not inclusive — so these are the only four standards. Q: Can two people living in the same house be on two different boards, for example, one on the architectural committee and the other on the HOA board? A: One of the four optional eligibility standards in Civil Code Section 5105 is that co-owners may be prohibited from being board candidates or directors at the same time.

The ban by Meta, which owns Facebook and Instagram, has rankled Canadian authorities trying to share evacuation information this week across a remote swath of the country where social media is key to disseminating news. “What Meta is doing currently is unacceptable,” said Pablo Rodriguez, Canada’s transportation minister, at a news briefing Friday. Officials in Canada say the impact of the news ban has been evident during the wildfires crisis. “It’s like having your telephone taken away from you, or your radio taken away from you,” Tait said of the ban. Tait said she is asking Meta, at a minimum, to reverse the ban until the danger from the wildfires subsides.
