A group of Chinese citizens living and working in Florida sued the state Monday over a new law that bans Chinese nationals from purchasing property in large swaths of the state. The suit says the law unfairly equates Chinese people with the actions of their government and there is no evidence of national security risk from Chinese citizens buying Florida property. The number of states restricting foreign ownership of agricultural land has risen by 50% this year. Heading into 2023, 14 states had laws restricting foreign ownership or investments in private agricultural land. Brown said the recent surge in state laws targeting land ownership by foreign entities stems from some highly publicized cases of Chinese-connected companies purchasing land near military bases.

Masai Ujiri was understandably vague in the immediate aftermath of the dismissal of Nick Nurse when he was asked about the attributes he wanted in the Raptors new coach. A month into the process — and there seems to be no imminent resolution coming — that takeaway has been proved true. Steve Nash, the 49-year-old Hall of Famer, Canadian basketball icon and the former coach of the Brooklyn Nets, is the latest name to be thrown into the mix. If he’s content to simply make tweaks, he probably wants someone with motivational skills who can quickly gain the respect of the players, like ex-Suns head coach Monty Williams. Nash was 94-67 as the Nets head coach, got the team to the second round of the playoffs in 2021.

After the pandemic increased the need for city services and caused TTC fare revenue to drop, Toronto city hall is facing a fiscal crisis with a $1.5 billion budget hole. Property tax revenue, by design, does not automatically grow when properties are reassessed, so there’s no automatic windfall when home values go up. She’s also said she’ll keep residential property tax increases at or below the rate of inflation. In that light, “Will you jack property taxes?” is the wrong question.

As Israel recently celebrated its 75th anniversary, anti-Israel activists around the world have marked the occasion with “Nakba Day” demonstrations, protesting Israel’s very existence. While proponents of “Nakba Day” would claim the culprit is Israel, the reality is quite different. “The mass evacuation, prompted partly by fear, partly by orders of Arab leaders, left the Arab quarter of Haifa a ghost city….By withdrawing Arab workers their leaders hoped to paralyze Haifa,” the magazine reported. Hosting this anti-Israel extremist is not the first time that CBC Day 6’s Brent Bambury has given a platform to anti-Israel content. Why is CBC’s Brent Bambury giving such continued coverage to anti-Israel disinformation, particularly “Nakba” day narratives that protest against Israel’s right to exist?
