CAIRO - 4 January 2023: The Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population confirmed that the epidemiological situation of Corona is stable, and no new mutants of the virus have been detected that pose a danger. The ministry noted that winter is the most active season for viruses that infect the respiratory system, stressing the importance of obtaining vaccines such as Corona, influenza and pneumococcal vaccines. Dr. Hossam Hosni, head of the scientific committee to combat corona at the Ministry of Health and Population, said that the epidemiological situation is completely stable, and no new mutants of the virus have been detected, and the new mutant appeared in China has not been detected in Egypt until now. SANTOS, Brazil, Jan 2 (Reuters) - The Brazilian coastal city of Santos, which sporting giant Pele turned into a byword for soccer brilliance during a glittering club career, started bidding goodbye to its hero on Monday with a 24-hour wake. Mourners lined up to see Pele's body in an open casket in the center of the field at the Vila Belmiro stadium, home of the Santos Football Club. "Pele leaves millions of Santos fans across our country. He was the creator of Brazilian soccer," said Antonio da Paz, a fan outside the stadium for the memorial that began at 10 a.m. (1300 GMT). "Pele is eternal," Infantino told reporters.
(Reuters) - Al Nassr coach Rudi Garcia said the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo was a big step forward for Saudi Arabian football after the Portuguese forward arrived in Riyadh ahead of his official unveiling on Tuesday. Ronaldo, who was a free agent following his acrimonious split with Manchester United in November, joined Al Nassr last week on a 2-1/2 year deal estimated by media to be worth more than 200 million euros ($213.30 million). "The signing of a player the size of Cristiano Ronaldo is extraordinary and contributes to the development of Saudi football," said Garcia, who previously managed Lille, AS Roma, Olympique Marseille and Olympique Lyonnais. CAIRO - 2 January 2023: The Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population will launch 9 medical convoys within the initiative of the President of the Republic "Haya Karima" for free examination and treatment in various medical specialties. The Ministry of Health and Population said that the medical specializations available in the convoy include: "women, childbirth, family planning services, children, internal medicine, nose, ear, orthopedics, surgery, dental, heart and skin ophthalmology, in addition to radiology and analysis services." The Ministry of Health and Population added that the governorates where the convoys are scheduled to take place include the governorates of Sharqiah - Ismailia - Dakahlia - Beheira - Matrouh - Minya - Luxor - New Valley. It is noteworthy that the nation-wide developmental initiative, Haya Karima provides free medical and treatment services to citizens, while cases requiring care are referred to hospitals.
CAIRO – 2 January 2023: Minister of Education and Technical Education Reda Hegazy honored Sunday Grade 2 Student Omar Zaki after his win of the first place in the mental arithmetic competition held by UNESCO in Taiwan and that comprised 100 contestants. Zaki, 7, is resident of Mansoura city, which is the capital of Daqahliyah governorate, and student at a private school. The child had earned a scholarship to study a robotics course at Mansoura University's School of Engineering given his sharp intelligence. Egypt got re-elected in November as a member of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) after garnering 130 votes during Wednesday’s elections. The ministry’s spokesman, Ahmed Hafez, said this win crowns efforts made by the ministry and Egyptian embassies and envoys to garner votes in favor of re-electing Egypt as UNESCO executive board member.

Luxor African Film Festival announced that it will honor acclaimed Egyptian musician Hisham Nazih during its 12th edition. Nazih was selected by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to be a member in the Oscar organizer’s membership ranks. Nazih is the first-ever composer to be invited by the Academy and the only Egyptian in this year list. Nazih composed the soundtrack of Marvel’s series Moon Knight.
The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) will issue on Monday US dollar-denominated treasury bills (T-bills), worth $850m for a year, due on 2 January 2024. The CBE uses the proceeds of this T-bills bid to pay the value of a previous bid submitted by the bank on 4 January 2022 at a value of $852.9m. The Central Bank of Egypt had received 22 offers at a value of $1.140bn to cover a similar bid it put out on 5 December, at a value of $990m. According to the Central Bank’s data, on its website, the bank accepted 16 of those offers at the same offering value. It is noteworthy that the CBE allows subscribing to these T-bills for both local banks and foreign institutions, with a minimum subscription of $100,000 and its multiples.
Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi directed that the Sovereign Fund of Egypt (TSFE) should utilise the state’s assets and develop them in a sustainable manner to maximise the return and to preserve the capabilities of the current and future generations. This came during a meeting on Sunday with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Head of General Intelligence Abbas Kamel, Minister of Planning and Economic Development Hala El-Said, and Executive Director of the Sovereign Fund of Egypt Ayman Soliman. During the meeting, the president was briefed on the projects and activities of the TSFE to increase the volume of investments to benefit the national economy. Since its establishment, the fund has contributed to attracting 43% of the total foreign direct investment with 14 projects and a value of about EGP 37bn, focusing on several important sectors of the Egyptian economy, especially hydrogen. The partnerships concluded by the TSFE with several Arab and international sovereign funds and their role in providing joint investment opportunities were also presented, in addition to presenting the work plan of the sub-fund for public offerings and the mechanism for implementing the state ownership document to provide diversified and attractive investment opportunities.

A report by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) showed a 12.5% increase in the number of mobile internet users till the end of October 2022 from 61.8 million to 69.5 million compared with corresponding period of 2021. The number of cell phone subscribers declined to 99.1 million by October from 101.4 million last year. Fixed internet users reached 11.9 million by October 2022 against 11.1 million in the corresponding period, recording a 7.2 percent increase. USB Modem users went down from 2.9 million to 2.1 million, registering a 27.6 percent decline.
CAIRO - 1 January 2022: Agricultural Expert at the Horticulture Research Institute Ayman Abdel Aal recommended expanding the agriculture of corn on reclaimed lands in New Delta, Toshki, East Owinat, Sinai, New Valley, Western Menya, and Matrouh's Maghara in order to face the shortage in animal feed. Abdel Aal pointed out that Egypt imports around 10 million tons of wheat, 11 million tons of yellow corn, and four million tons of soybean per annum. What's more, the country imports 97 percent of its needs of cooking oil. The expert highlighted that the pourtly industry alone needs around 900,000 tons of feed per month. He added that cultivation in reclaimed lands would allow for harvesting in December, and thus, more of the crop, as the harvest season of yellow corn in Egypt is the summer.
