Around 50 Indian companies have invested in various sectors in Egypt with a combined investment exceeding $3.15bn, according to Indian ambassador in Cairo, Ajit Gupte. “Indian companies are present in a range of sectors like apparel, agriculture, chemicals, energy, automobiles, retail, and others,” Gupte said. Gupte affirmed that most of these Indian companies like TCI Sanmar also have additional investments in the pipeline. The Indian ambassador pointed out that bilateral mechanisms have been revived to facilitate trade and economic relations between India and Egypt. The two sides also agreed to work towards achieving a bilateral trade div of $12bn by 2027.

CAIRO – 14 August 2022: Nicholas Reeves once claimed that Queen Nefertiti is buried in a secret room behind the tomb of King Tutankhamun. Recently, prominent archaeologist and former Minister of Antiquities Zahi Hawass shed light on Queen Nefertiti and King Tutankhamun in statements to a number of international newspapers. Moreover, Hawass said he will announce in October the details of Tutankhamun’s death, in addition to explaining the method that uses DNA in the discovery of the mummy of Queen Nefertiti and the wife of King Tutankhamun. During the conference, a number of scholars demanded more research and analysis to identify the size of the voids behind the tomb of Tutankhamun. They also demanded more radar surveys, not only in Tutankhamun's tomb, but in every other project.

President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi reshuffled his Cabinet and sent it Parliament for approval on Saturday, appointing 13 new ministers. He also thanked all the ministers who completed their tenure and wished the newly appointed ministers success in their new posts. Former commander of the Egyptian Air Force Mohamed Abbas Helmy was appointed as the Minister of Civil Aviation, succeeding Mohamed Mannar. Additionally, former VP of the National Authority for Military Production Mohamed Mohamed Salah Al-Din has now taken over the Ministry of Military Production. The last Cabinet reshuffle was in 2019, when 11 new ministers were sworn in before President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi in a limited cabinet reshuffle approved by Parliament.

Al Ahli Bank of Kuwait – Egypt (ABK-Egypt), has announced achieving breakthrough results for the first half (1H) of 2022, reflecting solid growth in business volume and very strong performance over the course of the year. The Bank achieved EGP 887m net profit in 1H 2022 compared to EGP 396m in 1H 2021, with net interest income growing 27% to EGP 1.3bn in 1H 2022 compared to EGP 1bn over the same period in 2021. According to the Bank’s announced results, the total assets grew by 8% to reach EGP 61.4bn in June 2022 compared to EGP 56.8bn in December 2021. The total customer deposits witnessed an increase of 12% to reach EGP 53.7bn compared to EGP 47.9bn, and the Bank’s total gross loans portfolio also increased by 13% to reach EGP 30.85bn compared to EGP 27.4bn in December 2021. Egypt’s Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Mohamed Shaker, announced Sunday that his ministry is preparing to hold an international press conference within several days to announce a plan to rationalize electricity consumption in all economic sectors. The need to rationalize the state’s electricity usage risesLast week, the cabinet approved a draft decision to take some measures to implement the state’s plan to rationalize electricity consumption, which aims to achieve savings in the quantities of natural gas used in operating power stations for the purpose of exporting and benefiting from hard currency. Authorities will also stress on reducing strong lights on their facades. Major sports facilities, such as clubs, sports stadiums, and others, are committed to reducing electricity consumption, completely shutting down lighting after the end of the events, and coordinating with the competent authorities to hold events and training during the day as much as possible. The Supreme Council for Media Regulation shall also formulate a media plan aimed at increasing societal awareness about the importance of rationalizing electricity consumption in general.

Jerusalem (CNN) – At least eight people, including five Americans, were wounded in a shooting attack targeting a bus near the Western Wall in Jerusalem’s Old City early Sunday morning. The US Embassy in Jerusalem said they are “shocked and saddened” by the attack. “Deeply saddened to confirm that Americans were injured in this attack. The suspect is an Israeli citizen from East Jerusalem, a security source told CNN. He was not known for any terror related offenses, but had a criminal record and had spent time in prison, the security source told CNN.

CAIRO – 14 August 2022: The Cultural Development Fund Sector announced receiving applications for the 14th Jamil House Traditional Crafts Program, held at the Fustat Traditional Crafts Center in cooperation with Prince Charles School of Traditional Arts in England. The academic program is sponsored by Egypt’s Ministry of Culture. Head of the Cultural Development Fund Sector Fathi Abdel Wahab said that the grant targets talented Egyptians in the field of heritage crafts, and is offered to support them to preserve the elements of the Egyptian cultural heritage. The diploma aims to prepare and qualify a group of distinguished Egyptians in the field of traditional crafts, through a studying course and practical training over a period of 2 full years, three days a week from 10 am to 4 pm, in the fields of carpentry [wood veneer], stained glass, copper, and porcelain.

CAIRO - 14 August 2022: A fire broke out at Abo Sefein Church in Imbaba district in Giza Governorate on Sunday and efforts are under way to put it out. 55 victims have been transferred to several hospitals. Four fire trucks rushed to the scene in a bid to contain the blaze. Fire fighters began cooling operations to make sure that fire would not erupt again given high temperature and the availability of large quantities of wood inside the church. President Sisi directed all relevant state institutions to immediately take all necessary measures to deal with this incident and its effects, and to provide all aspects of health care for the injured.

Internal tourism in the Red Sea continued for the second month, topping occupancy rates as hotels and tourist villages witness a turnout from Egyptians. A large number of tourist villages announced that they were “complete” until mid-September, while accommodation prices continued to rise in various hotel classifications. The number of Russian flights to Hurghada increased to six flights per week. The Hurghada International Airport received on Thursday three flights from Russian airports for the first time since flights resumed following the outbreak of the Russian-Ukrainian war. While the operating schedules for arrival of flights at the airport registered the reception of 94 regular and charter flights from various European airports, carrying about 14,000 European tourists.

Several governorates in Egypt started implementing measures to rationalize electricity consumption, under instructions received from the cabinet to improve energy consumption in public facilities. Governor Mostafa Alham stressed the importance of coordinating with concerned authorities to implement measures to rationalize electricity consumption in public facilities, schools, mosques, youth centers, all streets, squares and clubs, to achieve the goal of providing electricity. Adjusting to a time of global crisisIn Sharqiya, Governor Mamdouh Ghorab held a meeting with the head of the electricity sector in the governorate Essam al-Husseini to discuss ways to better rationalize electricity consumption in government buildings, public facilities, sports clubs, youth centers, covered halls, and stadiums that use scout lights, as well as reducing the lighting of main streets. The governor said that due to global crises Egypt requires concerted efforts towards implementing a package of urgent measures, to continue providing the best services to citizens. Ghorab issued his instructions to follow up the electricity consumption in all public facilities and government departments, and rationalize its consumption in implementation of the instructions of the Prime Minister, as well as the formation of committees in each service building, to follow up the procedures for achieving the state’s goals for energy rationalization.

As per the reshuffle, Major General Hesham Amna will assume the post of the local development minister, succeeding Major General Mahmoud Shaarawi. 1 - Dr. Reda Hegazy, deputy minister of education, will take hold of the Ministry of Education. 3 - Minister of Higher Education and temporary Minister of Health will consolidate his position at the Minister of Health and leave his position at the Ministry of Higher Education. 4 - Mohamed Ayman Ashour, deputy minister of higher education, has been promoted to be the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research. 11 - General Hesham Abdel Ghany Amena, governor of Beheira, assumes the Ministry of Local Development.

CAIRO - 13 August 2022: The Egyptian Ministry of Transport, represented by the Egyptian Railways Authority, contracted with the Spanish company Talgo to manufacture and supply 7 new luxury sleeper trains and carry out maintenance work for a period of 15 years, including availability and the supply of spare parts and equipment for the trains. Egypt Today highlights the specifications of the new trains:- The new trains offer the highest levels of luxury and modern technology. - Each train includes: "power car - buffet car - club car - 5 first luxury cars -10 second luxury cars." - The deal will contribute to supporting the existing fleet of railway sleeper trains. - It contributes to increasing the number of trips using these trains on the network lines.

CAIRO - 12 August 2022: Spokesperson for the Coordination Committee of Parties' Youth Leaders and Politicians (CPYP) Musab Amin said youth issues have been at the top of national priorities since President Abdel Fattah El Sisi took the helm in 2014. Marking the International Youth Day on Friday, Amin told MENA that President Sisi's decision to declare 2016 as the "Year of Egyptian Youth" clearly shows that the State is keen on giving more space for young people and empower them at the political, social and economic levels. In this regard, he pointed to the Presidential Program for Youth Leadership, which was launched in September 2015 to qualify young people to assume leading positions. Amin stated that national youth conferences provided a means of communication between youth and the State to benefit from their ideas in decision-making circles.
