Around 50 Indian companies have invested in various sectors in Egypt with a combined investment exceeding $3.15bn, according to Indian ambassador in Cairo, Ajit Gupte. “Indian companies are present in a range of sectors like apparel, agriculture, chemicals, energy, automobiles, retail, and others,” Gupte said. Gupte affirmed that most of these Indian companies like TCI Sanmar also have additional investments in the pipeline. The Indian ambassador pointed out that bilateral mechanisms have been revived to facilitate trade and economic relations between India and Egypt. The two sides also agreed to work towards achieving a bilateral trade div of $12bn by 2027.

Recently, prominent archaeologist and former Minister of Antiquities Zahi Hawass shed light on Queen Nefertiti and King Tutankhamun in statements to a number of international newspapers. Moreover, Hawass said he will announce in October the details of Tutankhamun’s death, in addition to explaining the method that uses DNA in the discovery of the mummy of Queen Nefertiti and the wife of King Tutankhamun. During the conference, a number of scholars demanded more research and analysis to identify the size of the voids behind the tomb of Tutankhamun. President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi reshuffled his Cabinet and sent it Parliament for approval on Saturday, appointing 13 new ministers. He also thanked all the ministers who completed their tenure and wished the newly appointed ministers success in their new posts. Former commander of the Egyptian Air Force Mohamed Abbas Helmy was appointed as the Minister of Civil Aviation, succeeding Mohamed Mannar. Additionally, former VP of the National Authority for Military Production Mohamed Mohamed Salah Al-Din has now taken over the Ministry of Military Production. The last Cabinet reshuffle was in 2019, when 11 new ministers were sworn in before President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi in a limited cabinet reshuffle approved by Parliament.

Al Ahli Bank of Kuwait – Egypt (ABK-Egypt), has announced achieving breakthrough results for the first half (1H) of 2022, reflecting solid growth in business volume and very strong performance over the course of the year. The Bank achieved EGP 887m net profit in 1H 2022 compared to EGP 396m in 1H 2021, with net interest income growing 27% to EGP 1.3bn in 1H 2022 compared to EGP 1bn over the same period in 2021. According to the Bank’s announced results, the total assets grew by 8% to reach EGP 61.4bn in June 2022 compared to EGP 56.8bn in December 2021. The total customer deposits witnessed an increase of 12% to reach EGP 53.7bn compared to EGP 47.9bn, and the Bank’s total gross loans portfolio also increased by 13% to reach EGP 30.85bn compared to EGP 27.4bn in December 2021. The need to rationalize the state’s electricity usage risesLast week, the cabinet approved a draft decision to take some measures to implement the state’s plan to rationalize electricity consumption, which aims to achieve savings in the quantities of natural gas used in operating power stations for the purpose of exporting and benefiting from hard currency. Authorities will also stress on reducing strong lights on their facades. Major sports facilities, such as clubs, sports stadiums, and others, are committed to reducing electricity consumption, completely shutting down lighting after the end of the events, and coordinating with the competent authorities to hold events and training during the day as much as possible. The Supreme Council for Media Regulation shall also formulate a media plan aimed at increasing societal awareness about the importance of rationalizing electricity consumption in general.

Jerusalem (CNN) – At least eight people, including five Americans, were wounded in a shooting attack targeting a bus near the Western Wall in Jerusalem’s Old City early Sunday morning. The US Embassy in Jerusalem said they are “shocked and saddened” by the attack. “Deeply saddened to confirm that Americans were injured in this attack. The suspect is an Israeli citizen from East Jerusalem, a security source told CNN. CAIRO - 14 August 2022: A fire broke out at Abo Sefein Church in Imbaba district in Giza Governorate on Sunday and efforts are under way to put it out. 55 victims have been transferred to several hospitals. Four fire trucks rushed to the scene in a bid to contain the blaze. Fire fighters began cooling operations to make sure that fire would not erupt again given high temperature and the availability of large quantities of wood inside the church. President Sisi directed all relevant state institutions to immediately take all necessary measures to deal with this incident and its effects, and to provide all aspects of health care for the injured.
