In a significant move, Somalia has threatened to expel thousands of Ethiopian troops stationed in the country to assist with security, by the end of the year unless Ethiopia cancels a controversial port deal with the breakaway region of Somaliland. Currently, around 3,000 Ethiopian soldiers are posted in Somalia as part of the African Union peacekeeping mission (ATMIS) in Somalia, aimed at combating the militant group al-Shabaab. Additionally, an estimated 5,000-7,000 Ethiopian troops are stationed in various regions of Somalia under a bilateral agreement between the two countries. Ethiopia offered Somaliland possible recognition in exchange for being allowed to set up a naval base and commercial port – a move Mogadishu has called illegal. Somalia has urged for a new, smaller peacekeeping mission to be announced by the end of June, with the exclusion of Ethiopian troops.

ADDIS ABABA, June 3 (Xinhua) -- The Ethiopia-Djibouti Standard Gauge Railway Share Company (EDR) and Ethiopia's state-owned logistics enterprise, Ethiopian Shipping and Logistics (ESL), have signed an agreement to join forces to modernize Ethiopia's logistics sector. They are adapting new water-storage techniques as their traditional ponds dry up, and changing how they feed their cattle and sheep. In the past few years, the Churatas’ farm in the highland Andean region of Oruro has been hit by climate phenomena known as La Nina and recently the reverse El Nino, the strongest one in 20 years. Bolivia has seen major lakes decline, including the giant Titicaca, Lake Poopo and Uru Uru, which are important reservoirs of water for farmers like Elizabeth and Edwin. They have traditionally relied on wild grasses to feed their animals, burning the grass stalks and praying for adequate rainfall.

Svitolina had reached the quarter-finals four times before, including 2023, but was unable to trouble the former Wimbledon champion.
