AvtoVAZ, the Russian state-owned automaker, and Ethio Engineering Group have signed a letter of intent to collaborate on manufacturing Lada cars in Ethiopia. The agreement was signed by Ambassador Suleiman Dedefo of Ethio Engineering and Ilya Savinov, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at AvtoVAZ. The collaboration involves Ethio Engineering initially assembling Lada cars, later transitioning to full production for local and African markets, with a focus on agriculture, agro-processing, mining, and manufacturing sectors. According to earlier reports, Lada cars manufactured in Ethiopia have the potential to be exported to other African countries, including Sudan, South Sudan, Kenya, and Somalia. Additionally, there are reports indicating the interest of other Russian car manufacturers in investing in Ethiopia's car assembly sector.

ISLAMABAD-The Embassy of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (FDRE) in Pakistan has announced that the House of the Peoples Representatives of FDRE has unanimously approved the bilateral trade agreement signed by the two countries on February 14, 2023 to boost bilateral trade. The trade agreement was submitted by the Standing Committee of the House on Trade and Tourism to the Ethiopian Parliament for approval on the 8th regular meeting of the 3rd year of the House of the Peoples Representatives held the other day. The bilateral trade agreement is aimed at boosting trade cooperation between the two countries for further strengthening the economic and commercial relations between Ethiopia and Pakistan. Ambassador Seleshi Bekele confirmed the initiation of talks to finalize guidelines and rules on the first filling and annual operation of the dam. Representing Ethiopia, Ambassador Seleshi took to X (former Twitter) to announce the commencement of the negotiations, underscoring Ethiopia’s commitment to the principles established in the 2015 Declaration of Principles (DoP) concerning the GERD Project. Negotiations began in 2014 following the commencement of the dam’s construction by Ethiopia. Most recently, talks hosted by the UAE in August 2022 failed to produce a draft agreement.
