Now-mayor Kathy Majdlik said allowing a church in a Green Wedge Zone would set a dangerous precedent, while councillor Goran Kesic said that many of the congregation’s members arrived in Australia as refugees fleeing conflict, and establishing a church in Melton would reflect the resilient and devout nature of the community. Ethiopia's Ministry of Finance signs deal with AMEA Power for 300-MW onshore wind project in Horn of Africa. Dubai-based renewables developer and operator AMEA Power LLC is set to build a 300-MW onshore wind farm in Ethiopia, its first independent power producer (IPP) project in the country. AMEA Power has signed the agreement with the Ethiopian Ministry of Finance on the sidelines of the COP28 climate summit held in Dubai. In a statement released today, the ministry described the USD-600-million (EUR 551.7m) project as "poised to become the largest wind energy project in the Horn of Africa". Ethiopian Airlines (ET, Addis Ababa International) believes its prospective Nigerian joint venture will go ahead despite concerns within the Nigerian government. Under the plan, it will take a 49% stake in startup Nigeria Air (NWB, Lagos), with private investors taking 46% and the Nigerian government 5%. Speaking to Aviation Daily, Ethiopian Airlines CCO Lemma Yadecha Gudeta said the joint venture was "almost a done deal." He has reportedly informed the Nigerian president of his concerns; it is up to the president to ultimately give the joint venture the go-ahead. The Nigerian government says it is committed to protecting the interests of local airlines and ensuring a level playing field across the Nigerian aviation industry.

The military leaders of Burkina Faso and Niger said Saturday they would quit the G5 anti-jihadist force in Africa's Sahel area, the latest blow to the fight against insurgents in one of the world's most troubled regions. The G5, created in 2014, has secured only meagre results, with Mali also quitting the original five-nation force last year, also in the wake of a military coup. Burkina and Niger "have decided in full sovereignty to quit all instances of the G5 Sahel, including the joint force" as of November 29, the two countries said in a statement. Worse, the legitimate ambitions of our countries, of making the G5 Sahel a zone of security and development, are hindered by institutional red tape from a previous era, which convinces us that our process of independence and dignity is not compatible with G5 participation in its current form," they said. .In a veiled reference to france, they added that "the g5 sahel cannot serve foreign interests to the detriments of our people, and even less the dictates of any power in the name of a partnership that treats them like children, denying the sovereignty of our peoples."
