Premier League: Fulham 2 Liverpool 2Harrison Reed’s stunning 97th minute equaliser in a remarkable 2-2 draw at Craven Cottage has left Liverpool on their knees just when they thought Cody Gakpo had revitalised their season. But, somehow, they managed to throw it away as they left Fulham substitute Reed in acres of space to smash home a remarkable long-distance shot that fizzed past goalkeeper Alisson. What is it about this Liverpool side that simply cannot get a grip on their title defence? Most Liverpool fans must have expected their team to run away with it from there, but Fulham proved dangerous opponents. Kilkenny's bid for a record 21st Dioralyte Walsh Cup title is over - without even pucking a ball. The Leinster champions, along with Davy Fitzgerald's Antrim and Joe McDonagh Cup holders Kildare all exited at the Round 1 stage following coin tosses. Freezing conditions over the weekend forced the cancellation of three Walsh Cup fixtures. With no opportunity for refixtures in the tight pre-season schedule, the coin tosses went the way of Westmeath, Offaly and Galway, with all three teams advancing in the Walsh Cup proper. Just two Walsh Cup games did take place with both Dublin and Wexford advancing to face eachother in a midweek quarter-final.

Premier League: Newcastle 2 Crystal Palace 0Bruno Guimaraes was Newcastle’s hero as they edged past Crystal Palace to claim a second successive Premier League victory. However, Eddie Howe’s men emerged from the first of nine games in 28 days this month with the win they craved. Palace settled, but the Magpies continued to press and Henderson had to made a fine reaction save from Fabian Schar’s 17th-minute header after the keeper had punched Wissa’s cross straight to Lewis Hall. Newcastle thought they had taken the lead two minutes later when Wissa ran on to Guimaraes’ through ball and crossed for Gordon to score, but a VAR check came to the visitors’ rescue. Henderson denied Barnes with a foot before substitute Joe Willock fired wide of an open goal from the rebound, but the points were already banked.

Northern Ireland’s Environment Minister Andrew Muir has accused some politicians of a “deliberate attempt to undermine the science and evidence” around the ecological crisis at Lough Neagh. The minister also said work would continue to implement actions in the Lough Neagh Recovery Plan agreed by the Executive. Lough Neagh supplies 40 per cent of Northern Ireland’s drinking water and sustains a major eel fishing industry. Mr Muir said: “Since taking up office, I’ve been very clear that the situation in Lough Neagh has been a result of decades of neglect and there are no quick fixes. “What I have seen, particularly in 2025, is a deliberate attempt by some to undermine the science and evidence around this.

A drought-stricken village in North Cork, in line for 60 new houses, is already struggling with a "nightmare" creaking water supply that hasn’t been upgraded in more than 50 years. State water utility Uisce Éireann, formerly known as Irish Water, says that funding is not available at present to replace the old network. The parish now has a population of just over 1,200 people, which is a lot more than when the supply system was built. While Uisce Éireann has in recent times reduced the number of leaks, Mr O'Leary claimed winter frosts will cause more breaks. The people deserve answers, investment, and certainty not another decade of excuses,” Mr O’Leary said.

Few sports stars in history are so precocious that their place in the pantheon is assured by the time they are 18. Most experts had expected Gian van Veen to give Littler a proper test. After his 7-1 dismantling, Van Veen was asked whether Littler was unstoppable. With this victory, Littler became only the fourth player to retain a PDC title, following on from Phil Taylor, Adrian Lewis and Gary Anderson. But when Littler won the third set with a 170 checkout all the tension and drama seemed to leave the match.
