The Irish Gold Cup at the Dublin Racing Festival and then the blue riband at the Festival in March beckon, with the still lightly-raced Affordale Fury faring well following his exertions over the Christmas period. Meade said: “He’s come out of the race very well and the plan, more or less, is that he will go to the Irish Gold Cup and then, if we’re happy with him, on to the Gold Cup. That’s the way the plan is looking at the moment. “He was very good and in fairness we were expecting a big run, he was in terrific shape and we were very happy with him. “He’s come out of the race well and he’s going to have an easy fortnight and then we’ll start to build up for the next race.”

Ronan Keating has said a Boyzone tour would be 'incredibly unhealthy' as their previous reunion shows were a 'toxic environment'. He said: 'We met up a week later in London to do the Palladium, the five nights that we did, the final shows, or as we thought were the final shows. Confirming the upcoming shows will be their last, Ronan said: 'It's our way of writing the final chapter, saying goodbye. The upcoming one-off shows, called Two For The Road, will follow on from their 2019 farewell tour, Thank You And Goodnight. Boyzone's reunion shows, Two For The Road: Live At Emirates Stadium, will take place on June 5 and June 6.

Dan Skelton is relishing a potential Cheltenham Festival Trials day showdown against Sir Gino with The New Lion after keenly observing the best of the action over the festive period. Skelton said: "The New Lion jumped on New Year's Day and jumped beautiful. "It sounds like we might clash with Sir Gino on Trials day and we'd look forward to that." Sir Gino looked very good (in the Christmas Hurdle at Kempton on St Stephen's Day) and very speedy, so I would say he's going to be very hard to beat." Meanwhile, Kabral Du Mathan looks set to swerve a Paddy Power Stayers' Hurdle run, with Skelton favouring Fontwell and Aintree options this term.

Tyson Fury has announced he will return to boxing in 2026 nearly a year after he announced his latest retirement from the ring. After a second points loss to heavyweight rival Oleksandr Usyk for three of the four major world titles in December 2024, Fury confirmed the end of his professional career the following month. Despite insisting he had bowed out of the sport, Fury has been repeatedly linked with a long-awaited all-British bout against Anthony Joshua, another former two-time world heavyweight champion. If Joshua is unavailable, Fury could seek a trilogy fight against WBC, WBA and IBF titlist Usyk or a contest with WBO champion Fabio Wardley. A win over either would see Fury join Muhammad Ali as a three-time world heavyweight champion.

One area now attracting attention, according to Dr Mohammed Enayat, an NHS GP and founder of London-based longevity clinic HUM2N, is the health of the small intestine. But Dr Enayat says attention is increasingly turning to the lining of the small intestine itself. He told the Daily Mail: 'When we talk about the gut, we're talking about the small intestine in particular. 'The small intestine is responsible for absorbing from that liquid what it wants to take—the good stuff—and then the large intestine is responsible for excreting, getting rid of the waste product.' Leaky gut can cause mild symptoms for years before a full autoimmune condition develops—and becomes harder, if not impossible, to cure.

Bryan Johnson, the 48-year-old venture capitalist and tech company founder, is a strange and fascinating man. Late last month, Johnson opened up a whole new front in his personal war on mortality – that of getting completely out of his gourd on magic mushrooms. In a way, the idea that getting out of your gourd on magic mushrooms might have some benefit in terms of longevity is a fairly counterintuitive one. Magic mushrooms, according to one study, may help extend the lifespan of mice, as well as reducing inflammation and increasing neuroplasticity. The great irony of Bryan Johnson might be that, in the end, he is living his own version of just such an authentic life.

Venezuela, which has the world’s largest supply of proven oil reserves, is a member of the organisation. Recent US pressure on Maduro’s regime, including the seizure of tankers carrying Venezuelan crude, forced the country to start shutting some oil wells. Crude prices have slumped in recent weeks to around $60 a barrel. One weekend retail trading product run by IG Group showed US crude prices at one point rising by close to $2 from Friday’s close. “We continue to operate in full compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.”The capture of Mr Maduro raises speculation over the fate of the Venezuelan oil industry in the longer-term.

Antoine Semenyo, it seems likely, will soon join Manchester City from Bournemouth for a fee of £65m (€74m). Yet £65m (€74m) would make him the third-most expensive player in Bundesliga history. Even in Premier League terms, Semenyo sneaks into the top 25. The effect those crazes can have is seen by the player Semenyo will slot one place below on the list of most expensive Premier League arrivals: Benjamin Sesko. Value in the market is very much in the eye of the beholder and fees in the Premier League feel entirely divorced from any kind of objective reality.

Leeds 1 Manchester United 1Joshua Zirkzee’s Manchester United career is almost certainly coming to an end, but it is doing so on a personal upswing. A goalscorer in the disappointing draw against Wolves on Tuesday, Zirkzee was a goalmaker as a point was salvaged at Elland Road. Introduced immediately after the visitors had lost a soft goal, the Netherlands forward’s first significant contribution was to play a perfectly weighted through pass for Matheus Cunha to roll an equaliser past Leeds goalkeeper Lucas Perri. A West Cork whiskey manufacturer is facing the prospect of having to cancel plans for a large storage facility in a rural area about 7km from Kinsale after An Coimisiún Pleanála refused it retrospective permission for four bonded warehouses over concerns about what might happen in the event of a fire. The local authority had also permitted a change of use of an existing open steel tank to a firefighting retention tank for a period of three years as well as the construction of a fire pump building. An Coimisiún Pleanála rejected an inspector’s recommendation that retention permission should be granted for the bonded warehouses and firefighting system. However, Ms McGovern said it shared the concerns of the environment section of Cork County Council about the proposed remote unmanned whiskey storage facility. The council’s ruling had been appealed by a local resident, Helen O’Dowd, who claimed the storage facility posed a fire hazard, while articulated trucks visiting the site raised traffic safety issues.

That the fourth week was left blank is perhaps a testament to just how weight loss programmes don’t work, long-term. I’d feel full after a decent meal, but I’d feel hungry again pretty quickly, too. I feel better because I no longer feel embarrassed about my body. I feel better because I no longer feel as though people are looking at what I’m putting in my shopping trolley. I feel better because I fit into my clothes and I don’t feel ashamed of my lack of impulse control.
