A Senator made representations on behalf of someone who was not allowed to do their driving test because they were wearing sandals. It was one of dozens of queries from public representatives released by the Road Safety Authority (RSA) under the Freedom of Information Act. Some 45 per cent of these queries related to driving tests, “with the majority looking for a test date for a constituent or for an update on a constituent’s driving test application”, a representative said. “The above named was scheduled to do his test today but he wasn’t allowed to proceed as he was wearing sandals,” an email written on behalf of Fine Gael Senator Manus Boyle to the RSA in July reads. The RSA said it does “not prioritise any driving test applicant based on queries from public representatives”.

The chief executive of Limerick Chamber has resigned after just over a year since stepping into the role. Michelle Gallagher joined the business group in September 2024, succeeding Dee Ryan, who stepped down to run in the Limerick mayoral election the previous summer. Announcing her resignation, Ms Gallagher said: "After careful consideration, I am announcing that I will be stepping down from my role as Chief Executive Officer of Limerick Chamber. Wayne Rooney's lookalike son Kai showed he's following in his dad's footsteps as he took a break from Manchester United's under-18s for a family holiday to Barbados. The teenager, 16, was called-up to the club's squad earlier this season, aged 15, but was sidelined for months after suffering an injury. But Kai proved he is back to full-fitness as he raced Wayne's former teammate Jonny Evans during their Caribbean trip. Registrations of new electric cars in Ireland increased by 35% in 2025, with 23,601 new EVs registered over the year. In total, there were 124,954 new car registrations in Ireland in 2025, up 3% on 2024 (121,316), according to the Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI). “The new car market in 2025 finished in line with projections," said SIMI director general Brian Cooke. This, along with the increase in plug-in hybrid registrations, meant that Ireland comfortably surpassed the 2025 Climate Action Plan targets." All of Ireland is set to be affected by status yellow snow and ice warnings this weekend as Met Éireann forecasts a sharp cold snap, with temperatures dropping as low as -4C in some areas. Minister for Health Jennifer Carroll MacNeill said voluntary hospitals must put in place new technology systems and follow rules set by the Government on pay and spending. The voluntary hospitals and the HSE have clashed in recent months over plans by the health authority to introduce a new €200 million national financial information system. The Irish Times reported in November that voluntary hospitals were concerned about the impact the introduction of the HSE financial management system could have on their independence. It is understood she said the annual service agreements contained the “contractual” provisions that determined the relationship between the HSE and the voluntary hospitals. It is understood the Minister also said the implementation of such national systems was required under the service agreements between voluntary hospitals and the HSE.
