The two long time shows have had their Tuesday night episode cancelled for this week to make room for the football. EACC has formally written to the Cabinet Secretary for Gender recommending the suspension of a senior government official over graft-related investigations. EACC cited provisions of the Leadership and Integrity Act, its accompanying regulations, and the Public Service Code of Conduct and Ethics, which allow for the suspension of a public officer facing serious allegations while investigations are ongoing. The commission noted that under the law, an officer placed under suspension is entitled to half pay pending the conclusion of investigations and determination of the allegations. Global internet observatory NetBlocks has confirmed a nationwide disruption of internet services in Uganda just days before the country heads to the polls. On Tuesday, the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) announced the suspension of public internet access and restrictions on some mobile services ahead of the general elections. “Confirmed: Live network data show a nation-scale disruption to internet connectivity in #Uganda; the measure comes days ahead of general elections and corresponds to a shutdown notice from the Uganda Communications Commission ‘to mitigate the rapid spread of misinformation,’” NetBlocks said. Observers and rights advocates have raised concerns over the trend of internet restrictions during elections in parts of the region.
